Metal structures at the site of the future Jacksonville Fairgrounds were damaged during stormy weather Sunday afternoon. Read: 'It's going to be a different fair:' Construction greenlit for new fairgrounds on Westside Jacksonville Fairgrounds CEO Bill Olson tells Action News Jax that the majority of the damage was done to the columns and beams of what is supposed to be the future Fairgrounds Expo. Olson says construction of the expo began just last week, and they had already built about 20,000 square feet of the skeleton. Councilmember Randy White, who represents the district, says the damage is repairable, but may delay construction by two or three weeks. 'It was pretty windy this morning and you never know what it's going to cause. Obviously a down burst or something must've come through here, the building they started last Tuesday,' said White. 'I think it's an about 80,000 square foot building when it's finished, I think that's about 1/4 of what's been put up,' Councilmember White says, thankfully no one was working this morning, so no one was injured. Since the damage just happened, he says the cost of repairs is still unknown.
