Metallica's 30-Year-Old Song Finally Debuts On A Billboard Chart

Metallica's 'Enter Sandman' debuts on the Billboard Global 200 at No. 182, more than three decades ... More after its release, becoming the band's second career hit. SAN FRANCISCO, CA - AUGUST 12: (L-R) Robert Trujillo, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and James Hetfield of Metallica perform on Lands End stage during the 2017 Outside Lands Music And Arts Festival at Golden Gate Park on August 12, 2017 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic) 'Enter Sandman' has long reigned as one of Metallica's most successful songs. The group is responsible for some of the most commercially viable hard rock cuts of all time, and the classic smash may be the biggest of the bunch. Released in 1991 from the outfit's self-titled blockbuster album, 'Enter Sandman' remains hugely popular to this day all around the world. It's not uncommon to see the track appear on the Billboard charts, but this week, the title manages to debut on a ranking more than 30 years after its initial release. On this week's Billboard Global 200, 'Enter Sandman' finally arrives. Metallica's cut starts at No. 182 on the list of the most popular tracks throughout the globe. The ranking, introduced by Billboard five years ago, uses a methodology that blends both sales and streaming activity to show what people all around the planet are listening to — and this week, that includes Metallica. The hard rock superheroes have now scored just two hits on the Billboard Global 200. The group first arrived on the tally in July 2022 with 'Master of Puppets.' The following frame, the track climbed to an all-time peak of No. 20. So far, that cut stands as the band's only placement on the connected list, the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., which is compiled in the same manner, but with streams and sales from U.S. consumers removed. 'Enter Sandman' is a winner in the United States as well, and its continued success in America may be largely to thank for the track's arrival on the Billboard Global 200. This frame, 'Enter Sandman' climbs one space on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, settling at lucky No. 13. That's the only ranking where the tune manages to ascend at the moment. 'Enter Sandman' is also a winner on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales tallies, where it lives inside the top 10. On the former, the track holds steady at its all-time high of No. 3, while on the latter — which focuses on pure purchases — 'Enter Sandman' dips a single spot to No. 5. The smash has now spent triple-digit frames on all three of those U.S.-based tallies as of this period.

Lady Gaga's Debut Single Becomes A Hit — Again

Lady Gaga's winning streak continues this week, though not with brand new music. The superstar has spent much of 2025 promoting her latest album Mayhem, which has already produced a number of big hits on the Billboard charts. More recently, thanks to a pair of back-to-back headlining performances at Coachella and a historic concert in Rio de Janeiro — one that reset the record for the most attended show by any female musician in history — some of Gaga's older cuts have returned to prominence. In just the past few weeks, a number of the tunes that helped transform Gaga into the global powerhouse she is today have danced their way onto to various tallies and climbed on streaming platforms. In some cases, due to changes in the charts and the music industry in general, these appearances mark important firsts for those early smashes. This week, Gaga scores a new global win with the track that started it all. Billboard publishes a pair of rankings that track the most-consumed songs worldwide — one includes all countries, while the other omits the U.S. Gaga's debut single 'Just Dance,' a collaboration with Colby O'Donis, debuts on both of them, well over a decade after it was first released. This frame, it enters at No. 191 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. and at No. 200, in last place, on the Billboard Global 200. 'Just Dance' earns Gaga her nineteenth career win on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. tally. The collaboration is her milestone twentieth hit on the Billboard Global 200. Several of her early career singles have only reached these rosters — introduced in 2020 — within the past few weeks. Last frame, 'Judas' debuted, and this time around it climbs to a new peak. One period earlier, 'Bad Romance,' the lead track from her The Fame Monster project, landed on both global rankings. Those cuts are still present this time around. 'Just Dance' also appears on one other Billboard list this week, one focused only on American consumption. The bestseller and strong streamer remains steady at No. 13 on the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs chart. That's just one slot shy of its all-time high of No. 12. The track has now spent 141 frames on that tally, which is quite the feat for a tune released over 15 years ago. This week, Gaga claims six spots on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. rankings. In addition to 'Just Dance,' 'Judas,' and 'Bad Romance,' her collaboration 'Die With a Smile' with Bruno Mars, as well as 'Abracadabra' and 'Poker Face,' also appear. Bradley Cooper joins the singer on the Oscar-winning ballad 'Shallow,' which is charting solely on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. at the moment.

Lady Gaga May Be Just Days Away From Making History

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars scored the hit of a lifetime with 'Die With a Smile' — and that's saying a lot, considering both musicians have already produced dozens of smashes individually. The throwback-sounding duet, released in August 2024, became an instant hit out of the gate. Months later, the track is not only still performing well — it's leading the charge on several Billboard charts. The song still stands out as the biggest in the world, and as it holds on once more, it comes within striking distance of an all-time record. The Gaga/Mars collaboration has now dominated Billboard's ranking of the most-consumed songs throughout the world for 18 nonconsecutive weeks. That feat makes it the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Global 200, and the cut may soon break the previously-set record. If 'Die With a Smile' can hold on for just one more frame, it will match 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey for the most weeks spent at No. 1. That holiday smash has racked up a total of 19 stays at the summit, with those stints spread out across more than half a decade. The tune returns to the peak position at the end of each year and continues adding to its growing total. The fact that Gaga and Mars have been able to stitch together their 18 weeks at No. 1 in one promotional run — if not in a single streak — speaks to the track's incredible global popularity. 'Die With a Smile' is also in charge of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., though it still has a way to go before matching the all-time record on that ranking. With 15 frames spent atop the tally, it passes the 14 that 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' managed. However, that tune didn't hold the top showing. That honor belongs to 'Apt.,' a collaboration between Blackpink singer Rosé and, once again, Mars. The track led the list — which excludes sales and streaming data from America and reflects what the rest of the world is consuming — for 19 frames. The two tracks came out around the same time and, for a while, traded the No. 1 spot. If 'Die With a Smile' can remain at the top for another month, it could match 'Apt.' That's a tall order for a tune that has already been out for so many months and has now ruled for 15 weeks, but certainly not impossible.

Lady Gaga's Coachella Performance Pushes Her Early Career Single To New Highs

Lady Gaga's "Poker Face" hits new peaks on Billboard's global charts 15 years after release, fueled ... More by her standout performance at Coachella 2025. INDIO, CALIFORNIA - APRIL 11: (FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Lady Gaga performs at the Coachella Stage during the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival at Empire Polo Club on April 11, 2025 in Indio, California. (Photo byfor Coachella) Lady Gaga was easily the most talked-about headliner at Coachella this year. The pop and dance icon took to the main stage to deliver a set that blended the hits that made her a superstar with plenty of new material from Mayhem, her latest full-length. That project is still performing well in America, and thanks to her show-stopping set — streamed live for fans around the world — it even gains ground in some respects this week. But while Gaga's new music continues to shine, it's one of her earliest releases that steals the spotlight in a very unexpected way. Following her first of two Coachella performances, a handful of Gaga's most familiar tunes enjoy growth spurts across Billboard's global rankings. It's not uncommon for musicians who take part in major festivals — especially those broadcasted live — to experience a streaming and sales bump, but Gaga's success stands out. One track in particular grows by leaps and bounds: "Poker Face." The smash, which helped establish Gaga as a pop force, rockets up both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. lists. This frame, "Poker Face" advances to No. 83 on the former and No. 71 on the latter, nearly doubling its placements just last week on both tallies. Incredibly, "Poker Face" reaches new all-time peaks on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts this week, 15 years after its initial release. The song has remained a massive hit ever since it first dropped, but Billboard only introduced these global rosters in 2020. That means many older smashes are still in the process of climbing and achieving the kinds of peaks fans might expect from such favorites. "Poker Face" was released in 2008 as the second single from Gaga's debut album The Fame. The track quickly became a defining smash for the singer, further establishing her as a pop powerhouse on a global scale after the runaway success of 'Just Dance' with Colby O'Donis. Its sleek production, unforgettable hook, and daring, tongue-in-cheek lyrics helped push dance-pop back into the mainstream. In the years since it was shared, the cut has remained one of the signature songs not just of Gaga's career, but of twenty-first-century pop music. Thanks to her Coachella bump, Gaga occupies four positions on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts this frame. Just behind "Poker Face," "Bad Romance" debuts on the two tallies, becoming a hit globally for the very first time (at least on these lists). Meanwhile, Gaga and Bruno Mars continue to lead the charge at No. 1 with their duet "Die With a Smile," a historic smash that's been breaking records for months. At the same time, "Abracadabra" lifts back into the top 10 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. tally and makes a big push on the Billboard Global 200, surging from No. 20 to No. 13.

Lady Gaga's Early Career Single Is Finally A Global Hit — 15 Years After Its Release

Lady Gaga was always destined to steal the show at Coachella as the biggest headliner at the festival this year. The singer delivered a set that thrilled the thousands who packed the desert grounds — and countless more who tuned in via livestream. Whenever a major star commands the main stage at the event, a noticeable bump in streams, sales, and general consumption often follows. Gaga's new debuts on a handful of Billboard charts show she's no exception, as one track in particular even manages to become a global hit years after its initial release. "Bad Romance" has always been one of Lady Gaga's most recognizable tracks. It's a true pop classic that helped define her early years of superstardom. Shockingly, the dark, dramatic dance-pop anthem had never appeared on Billboard's global rankings…but that changed this week. Following Gaga's Coachella set, "Bad Romance" opens on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. On the former, which offers a worldwide look at the most popular tunes each week, the cut starts its run at No. 186. Over on the latter list, which removes data from the U.S. to better reflect international popularity, "Bad Romance" earns an even stronger showing, debuting at No. 172. Throughout her career, Gaga has shown she can command attention anywhere on the planet. Before this week, the pop powerhouse had already landed 16 tracks on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., and now "Bad Romance" joins that group and makes it 17. Meanwhile, on the broader Billboard Global 200, she's earned 18 stays somewhere on the roster. These updated figures also include some newer additions to her catalog. Earlier this year, Gaga unleashed her latest full-length Mayhem, which produced a number of worldwide smashes, including a few that debuted on the tally the week the set was new and then disappeared. Some fans might be shocked to learn that "Bad Romance" is only just now making its debut on Billboard's two global tallies. That's not to say the song wasn't a massive hit internationally when it first dropped. Quite the opposite, actually. Upon its release, "Bad Romance" dominated charts around the world and became a defining cut of the late 2000s. Billboard didn't launch its two global rankings until several years ago, long after "Bad Romance" had peaked. Because of that timing, many older hits never had the chance to appear. It's actually fairly common for beloved classics to only chart when something extraordinary happens — like a career-defining Coachella headlining set. "Bad Romance" isn't Gaga's only worldwide smash at the moment. This week, the superstar fills four spots on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. lists. Alongside the debut of "Bad Romance," two more of Gaga's hits — "Abracadabra" and "Poker Face" — grow on both rankings. Meanwhile, her collaboration with Bruno Mars, "Die With a Smile," holds steady at No. 1 on each list for another frame.
