Vigo County leaders, new homeowners celebrate completion of home program

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The successful completion of the Southard Homes Infill Project #1 was celebrated Monday by community leaders, marking a major milestone in the region's Homes for the FutureProgram. The event brought together Thrive West Central, in partnership with Southard Homes, LLC, the Wabash River Regional Development Authority (RDA), the City of Terre Haute, and Vigo County to recognize the addition of 15 new, energy-efficient, single-family homes on previously vacant lots throughout the City of Terre Haute. Developed by Billy Southard of Southard Homes, LLC, each home includes three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, and ranges from 1,100 to 1,200 square feet. All 15 homes have been sold, with new homeowners already moved in. 'This project is a testament to the power of local and regional collaboration,' said Ryan Keller, CEO of Thrive West Central. 'Through the Homes for the Future Program, we are not only addressing our region's housing needs—we're investing in families, neighborhoods, and the long-term vitality of Terre Haute. These 15 homes are just the beginning.' The project was made possible by funding from READI 1.0 and reflected the shared commitment of local, regional, and state partners—including the Wabash River RDA, Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), Mayor Brandon Sakbun, Vigo County Commissioners and both the City and County Councils. Bill Rennels of the Wabash River Regional Development Authority (RDA) emphasized the broader vision: 'This is what regional investment is all about—turning vacant lots into thriving neighborhoods and funding dreams that lead to real, tangible progress. We're proud to support projects like this that breathe new life into our communities.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
