Reunited Tang Jie-Ee Wei fall in Singapore Open second round

KUALA LUMPUR: Mixed doubles Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei's return to the World Tour ended in the second round of the Singapore Open today. The world No. 4 suffered a 21-18, 21-18 defeat to Taiwan's world No. 21 Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Chan in 39 minutes. The Singapore Open was Tang Jie-Ee Wei's first World Tour event since their temporary split after the All England in March due to personal differences. Tang Jie partnered Chan Wen Tse while Ee Wei combined with Loo Bing Kun for the Taiwan Open (May 6-11) and Malaysia Masters last week. Tang Jie-Wen Tse reached the semi-finals while Bing Kun-Ee Wei reached the last eight at the Taiwan Open. Hong Wei-Nicole had also beaten Bing Kun-Ee Wei in the second round of the Malaysia Masters. The Indonesia Open on June 3-8 will be Tang Jie-Ee Wei's next tournament. The second-seeded Malaysians begin their campaign against India's world No. 16 Dhruv Kapila-Tanisha Crasto and are likely to face compatriots and world No. 5 Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai in the semi-finals.

Ee Wei's short-lived pairing with Bing Kun ends in defeat

KUALA LUMPUR: Loo Bing Kun-Toh Ee Wei's hopes of ending their short mixed doubles stint on a high were dashed after they crashed out in the second round of the Malaysia Masters on Thursday. Bing Kun-Ee Wei came agonisingly close to reaching back-to-back quarter-finals but squandered commanding leads twice to lose 19-21, 22-20, 21-18 to Taiwan's world No. 23 pair Ye Hong Wei-Nicole Gonzales Chan at the Axiata Arena. They let slip a 17-13 advantage in the second game and then led 13-8 in the decider, only to falter again – summing up a disappointing end for Malaysia's mixed doubles campaign, which has now come to a premature close. Earlier in the day, independent pair Wong Tien Ci-Lim Chiew Sien also bowed out following a tame 21-14, 21-9 defeat to Thailand's Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran. The Malaysia Masters mark the end of Bing Kun and Ee Wei's brief partnership, with the latter set to reunite with world No. 5 partner Chen Tang Jie — who also parted ways with stand-in partner Chan Wen Tse — at next week's Singapore Open. Bing Kun-Ee Wei had impressed on their debut at the Taiwan Open two weeks ago, where they reached the quarter-finals. For Bing Kun, the short partnership was an experience to treasure, especially competing at the highest level for the first time. "This was the biggest tournament I've ever played in," said Bing Kun. "The atmosphere was electrifying and the support from the fans was incredible. You don't get this kind of experience at lower-tier tournaments. "I also got to face top-30 and even top-20 opponents – the level is really high right from the start." Bing Kun also took away valuable lessons from partnering Ee Wei, who's known for her fighting spirit and relentless energy on court. "She gave me some wise advice. She told me that once I step on court, I must give it everything I've got. No matter who the opponents are — even world champions — never be afraid and never give up," he said. National mixed doubles head coach Nova Widianto already has plans for Bing Kun, believing he has the potential to form a strong third pair for the national team. Nova is eyeing a new combination with either Go Pei Kee or Cheng Su Hui. "I'm thankful that coach sees potential in me. I really hope I'll be paired with a good partner and we can build something strong from there," said Bing Kun.

KUALA LUMPUR: New Malaysian mixed doubles pairings Chen Tang Jie-Chan Wen Tse and Loo Bing Kun-Toh Ee Wei caused a stir by storming into the quarter-finals of the Taiwan Open on Thursday. Playing together for the first time, Tang Jie-Wen Tse upset Indonesia's world No. 64 Marwan Faza-Aisyah Salsabila Pranata 18-21, 21-18, 21-17 in a 51-minute thriller. Meanwhile, Bing Kun-Ee Wei came from behind to shock South Korea's Ki Dong Ju-Jeong Na Eun 15-21, 23-21, 21-8 in Taipei. Tang Jie and Ee Wei, currently ranked world No. 5 in mixed doubles, are partnering different teammates for this tournament. They'll both be chasing semi-final spots on Friday. Tang Jie-Wen Tse face Indonesia's world No. 74 Bobby Setiabudi-Melati Daeva Oktavianti, while Bing Kun-Ee Wei meet the 65th-ranked pairing of Dejan Ferdinansyah-Siti Fadia Ramadhanti.
