How to Run it Back: The Binghamton Black Bears sweep Carolina as back-to-back Commissioner's Cup Champs

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Black Bears came back to home ice at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena up 2-0 in the Commissioner's Cup Finals, looking to finish off the Carolina Thunderbirds for the second straight season in a clean sweep. Carolina would get on the board first, as 9:23 into the first period, Gus Fork tucked in near post to go up 1-0. In the second, the Black Bears would tie it quick, as CJ Stubbs finds the back of the net to even it up, and then just under four minutes later, Austin Thompson finds himself out in front and takes the lead for Binghamton on the power play. The Thunderbirds got a power play of their own, and three minutes later, with a shot from the point, Roman Kraemer tied it for the visitors. Late in the 2nd, however, the game would be sealed, as Scott Ramaekers slides it in front to Zac Sirota, and he would finish what would be the game-winning goal. In the third, Blake Tosto would add one following some nice stick work by Cam Clark, who would get the assist, and then Tyson Kirkby would be in on the breakaway and make it five. The Binghamton Black Bears become the first team in FPHL history to win back-to-back Commissioner's Cup titles. Last season, they swept Carolina, and they did again this season, with a final of 5-2. Black Bears to wear B.C. Icemen throwbacks for Hall of Fame Night

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Binghamton Black Bears have once again partnered with the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame and will be wearing throwback jerseys that were unveiled by the team on Tuesday. The Black Bears will be wearing B.C. Icemen throwback jerseys. Last season, they honored the Binghamton Whalers. The Icemen were a team in the United Hockey League for five seasons, winning back-to-back divisional titles between 1998 and 2000. The Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame is honoring two inductees with ties to the Icemen. Dieter Kochan was a goalie for the team, and the late Johnny Hart designed the original logo. Binghamton will wear the jerseys when they host the Danbury Hat Tricks on April 11th, as part of the team's regular-season wrap-up. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
