Pakistan Shocker: Filmmaker Assaults Hindu Man In Karachi, Arrested After Public Outrage
Last Updated: The victim, Dheeraj Kumar, also known as Sudhair Dhun Raj or Dhun Raj, was attacked on the street by Salman Farooqi, the CEO of Bionic Films, and his armed guards. A shocking case of violence against Hindus in Pakistani has sparked widespread outrage after a young man from Marwari Hindu community was brutally assaulted in Karachi's upscale Defence Society area. The incident highlights the continued vulnerability of religious minorities and the misuse of power by the elite in Pakistan. The victim, Dheeraj Kumar, also known as Sudhair Dhun Raj or Dhun Raj, was attacked on the street by Salman Farooqi, the CEO of Bionic Films, and his armed guards. According to reports, Dheeraj was riding his motorcycle slowly through the Defence area to pick up his sister Kalpana, who works at a local beauty parlour. His bike allegedly caused a minor scratch to Farooqi's luxury Land Cruiser, which triggered the violent response. Eyewitnesses and viral video footage showed Farooqi and his armed guards dragging Dheeraj into the SUV at gunpoint. Inside, the filmmaker was seen restraining the young man as his guards slapped and assaulted him, ignoring his sister Kalpana's tearful and desperate pleas for mercy. With folded hands, she was heard begging, 'We are poor people; please don't beat him." Farooqi and his associates appeared unmoved by her cries, continuing to assault Dheeraj with impunity. Dheeraj and his family belong to the Marwari Hindu community, a marginalised group that lives in Karachi's Ranchhore Lines. The incident has been widely condemned as not just a case of personal violence but an example of systemic persecution enabled by religious and class hierarchies in Pakistan. This high-profile case is being seen as a grim reflection of growing intolerance and power abuse in Pakistan. Human rights activists are calling for strict legal action and broader protections for minorities, especially those from poor, vulnerable communities who often face such brutality without recourse.
