UAE Sets Global Standard in Disaster Response with Innovative, Life-Saving Missions

The United Arab Emirates has emerged as one of the world's most agile and impactful responders to humanitarian crises, leveraging innovation, preparedness, and global partnerships to deliver critical aid where it's needed most. From the earthquake-ravaged cities of Myanmar, Syria, and Türkiye to the cyclone-hit regions of Libya and the war-torn Gaza Strip, UAE search and rescue teams have led with efficiency and compassion—often arriving among the first on the ground. In Myanmar, following the March 31 earthquake, a UAE team composed of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, National Guard, and Joint Operations Command personnel launched immediate operations across six affected sites, using a rotating shift system to speed up rescues. Brigadier Salem Al Dhaheri, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Civil Defence, underscored the UAE's commitment to innovation-driven response strategies, citing the use of advanced field assessments, rapid deployment protocols, and strong institutional collaborations. Operation Chivalrous Knight 2, launched in February 2023, exemplifies this approach. Supporting earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye, the mission saved lives, treated over 13,000 people, and delivered more than 15,000 tonnes of aid via 260 airlifts and four cargo ships. In Derna, Libya, after Cyclone Daniel struck in September 2023, UAE teams deployed drones, K9 units, and jet skis—recovering hundreds of victims amid widespread destruction. The UAE's longest-running relief effort, Operation Chivalrous Knight 3, continues to support Gaza, delivering over 65,000 tonnes of aid valued at $1.2 billion. The 'Birds of Goodness' airdrop initiative, using GPS-guided containers, has revolutionised aid delivery to hard-to-reach areas. These missions reflect the UAE's evolving role as a global humanitarian leader—one defined not just by rapid response, but by strategic foresight, cutting-edge tools, and an unshakable commitment to human dignity. UAE completes 500 days of aid delivery in Gaza

'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3'' has completed 500 days of continuous giving, as part of the UAE's ongoing humanitarian efforts to support the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The humanitarian initiative was launched by the United Arab Emirates to aid the people of Gaza. The UAE continues to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to support those affected. During this period, the total aid provided exceeded 65,000 tonnes of food, medical, and relief supplies, with a value of over $1.2 billion, delivered via air, land, and sea to ensure that assistance reaches those in need as quickly as possible. As part of the humanitarian operation, the UAE launched numerous initiatives, including the establishment of two field hospitals: the first inside the Gaza Strip, which handled 51,853 cases, providing comprehensive medical services; and the second, a floating hospital off the coast of Al Arish city in Egypt, which treated 10,370 cases. In addition, the healthcare system was strengthened with 17 fully equipped ambulances, and 1,200 tonnes of medical equipment and supplies were delivered to support local hospitals. To help meet basic needs, six desalination plants were set up, producing two million gallons of water daily, which is pumped into Gaza to provide clean drinking water for those affected. Furthermore, 12 water tankers were deployed to ensure water supply to medical facilities and camps. The operation also established 21 field bakeries to produce daily bread and 50 charitable kitchens that serve hot meals daily to affected families. An air bridge for delivering aid played a vital role in the operation, with 594 air missions carrying thousands of tonnes of supplies. The 'Birds of Goodness' airdrop initiative contributed an additional 3,700 tonnes of aid via 53 airdrops to isolated areas in Gaza that were otherwise unreachable. By land, 3,495 aid trucks entered Gaza as part of the humanitarian operation, carrying food, relief parcels, shelter tents, and other essential items. Meanwhile, 14 ships arrived by sea — 7 via Al Arish Port and 7 via Cyprus, ensuring a steady flow of supplies through multiple channels. The delivery of relief aid by land, sea, and air reflects the UAE's historic and steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, as the nation spares no effort in providing all forms of humanitarian assistance to its Palestinian people. The competent authorities in the UAE implemented the 'Tarahum - for Gaza' campaign to provide relief aid for children, women, and the elderly. The UAE also introduced a prosthetics initiative to support Gaza residents who have lost limbs due to the conflict. This effort provides advanced prosthetic limbs, helping recipients regain mobility and independence. Meanwhile, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and with close follow-up by Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Charity and Humanitarian Foundation, the Foundation has sent a new shipment of food aid to the Gaza Strip, as part of its contribution to the 'Operation Chivalrous Knight 3.' The first shipment includes 32 tonnes of food parcels out of a total of 72 tonnes to be sent as an initial batch. This is part of a broader plan to send a total of 1,100 tonnes being prepared for dispatch. This initiative aims to support affected families in the Strip, complementing the first phase which focused on providing essential health supplies for infants and mothers. Ahmed Rashid Al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Fondation, stated that the Foundation continues, alongside other national charitable organisations, to provide humanitarian and charitable support to the people of Gaza under the framework of the Operation Chivalrous Knight 3. He added that this support is part of the UAE's humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza and to enhance the rapid response to the basic needs of the affected population.
