Rape suspect outsmarts police
A 28-year-old rape suspect believed to be involved in a string of rape cases in Nkandla, has outsmarted the police. The fugitive was accused of raping several Bizimali Secondary school pupils at knifepoint. He was apprehended by members of the Bhekisizwe Taxi Association in Intshelimnyama outside Marianhill, Pinetown, and the taxi operators handed over the suspect to the SAPS at Marianhill Police Station. KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda explained that they have launched a massive manhunt for the suspect, who escaped from police custody on Monday night. 'The suspect, who was arrested by Mariannhill police for several rape cases in the Ekhombe policing area, was to be transported to a correctional facility when he complained of an asthma attack and fainted. 'When police were busy assisting him, the suspect escaped and ran into the darkness. A dedicated team has been established to hunt him down,' said Netshiunda. Don't have the ZO app?
