BJP's Sankalp to Siddhi campaign to begin this week
Nagpur: BJP's state working president Ravindra Chavan on Tuesday held meetings with Vidarbha-based party officials as part of their nationwide campaign "Sankalp Se Siddhi" which begins this week. This campaign will cover events ranging from environment day to yoga day to marking the anniversary of the Emergency imposed during Indira Gandhi's regime. Addressing the media in Nagpur, Chavan said, "Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, India has grown from strength to strength. We have now become the fourth largest economy of the world and will soon rise higher. As part of our campaign, we will be organizing multiple events to ensure that this message reaches a wider audience." "We have around 80 organizational districts in the entire state. Of this, 19 organizational districts are based in Vidarbha. Today's workshop was held specifically for office bearers of these Vidarbha-based organizational districts," Chavan added. The party also has various cells, representing different sections of the society as well as communities. Even office bearers from these cells were part of the workshop held on Tuesday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Conheça o Alarme com Sirene que afasta os Ladrões com 40% Off Verisure Saiba Mais Undo Regarding the anniversary of the Emergency, Chavan said that it was a Black Day for the country. "We must ensure that nobody forgets what happened. PM Narendra Modi has always honoured those who raised their voice against the Emergency and upheld democratic values," Chavan said. The slew of events which the party has planned, will be keeping its members on their toes. This involvement of party cadres in various activities is seen by some as a strategy to keep the outfit in poll readiness. However, BJP leaders disagree saying the party organizes such campaigns to raise public related issues. "We have International Yoga Day coming up, then there's Environment Day. We are the only party which takes the initiative to involve the public in such issues," said a Nagpur-based party member.

"Time for Party to prepare": BJP chief JP Nadda charts roadmap in Himachal ahead of Panchayat polls
Solan (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President JP Nadda on Monday chaired a key core group meeting of the party in Himachal Pradesh's Solan, and instructed the state unit to start preparing for the upcoming Panchayat elections. During his visit, Nadda also participated in a Tiranga Yatra, where he congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor. In his address during the core group meeting, Nadda instructed the state BJP to launch a series of outreach programmes over the next two and a half months from June 5 to August 15 coinciding with the 11th anniversary of the Modi government. These events, he emphasised, should highlight the achievements of the Centre and energise party cadres across Himachal Pradesh. The State spokesperson and BJP MLA Randheer Sharma elaborated on the upcoming programme, saying, 'from Sankalp to Siddhi, We'll Take 11 Years of Modi's Work to the people.' 'The main agenda of today's core group meeting was to prepare for the campaigns around the 11-year milestone of the Modi government, which has undoubtedly been historic. Under the slogan 'Sankalp se Siddhi Tak', we will reach out to the public with the government's achievements,' he added. Sharma also outlined specific events being planned. 'On June 5, World Environment Day, we will begin with environment-related events. On June 21, we will observe International Yoga Day with programmes at the mandal level. On June 25, we will observe a 'Black Day' to mark the anniversary of the Emergency. Each of these events will be well-planned, and this detailed calendar will serve as a launchpad for our party's strategy leading into upcoming Panchayati Raj and Assembly elections,' he said. Meanwhile, former Himachal CM Jai Ram Thakur expressed his happiness over Nadda attending the Tiranga Yatra despite having a busy schedule. 'It was a matter of joy that despite attending a family function in Himachal, Nadda ji participated in both the Tiranga Yatra and the core group meeting. His presence has deeply motivated the party workers,' he added. Thakur further emphasised the significance of the guidance provided by the BJP national president, saying, 'he told us it's time to prepare, as half of the state government's term is already over. Naturally, as the Opposition, it's our responsibility to raise public issues both inside and outside the Assembly and face the upcoming challenges from the ruling side effectively. (ANI)

Thousands of ID cards, passports blocked over involvement in May 9 riots
Listen to article Passports and national identity cards of thousands of individuals linked to the May 9, 2023, riots have been blocked. More than 5,500 citizens from Lahore and other cities and towns across Punjab have had their passports blacklisted, officials from the Department of Passport and Immigration told local media. The revelation came a day after Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad convicted and sentenced 11 accused to various jail terms and fines in cases related to the violence on May 9, 2023, over charges of attacking the Ramna police station, attacking policemen, setting properties on fire, and spreading terrorism. May 9 cases refer to the violent attacks on state installations in 2023 following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan over corruption charges. Several people were arrested in these cases, which were tried and convicted by military courts as well as ATCs in different cities. Read More: 19 convicted in May 9 riots granted pardon Regarding the blocking of passports and national identity cards, sources said names were flagged based on geo-fencing data, which captured mobile or landline numbers detected near protest sites. In many cases, this data alone led to individuals being added to the blacklist, even without direct evidence of involvement. Some of those affected have submitted proof of innocence to police and law enforcement agencies. However, their names remain on the blacklist, prompting hundreds to file legal challenges in court. The Lahore High Court has taken up dozens of such cases and summoned passport officials along with relevant records. In several hearings, officials have submitted documents confirming the blacklisting of passports. Read More: Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Yasmin Rashid indicted in May 9 riots case During proceedings, it emerged that many individuals worked in nearby government or private offices and had only made calls to family members during the unrest, but were still flagged due to their mobile phone location data. In court filings, the Passport and Immigration Department stated that it does not hold the authority to add or remove names from the blacklist. That power, it said, rests with the Ministry of Interior, which manages both the blacklist and the Exit Control List (ECL). The ministry has reportedly placed names on the blacklist for any degree of involvement in the May 9 events. Those whose passports have expired cannot renew them until their names are cleared. May 9 Riots The May 9 riots erupted nationwide following the arrest of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, after which PTI leaders and workers staged protests targeting both civil and military installations, including Jinnah House and the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The military condemned the events as a "Black Day" and decided to try the protesters under the Army Act. As a result of the unrest, many PTI members were arrested and tried in military courts. In December, a military court convicted 25 individuals, including Imran Khan's nephew, Hassan Khan Niazi, and later sentenced 60 more. Also Read: Won't allow May 9 mayhem happen again In January, 19 convicts had their sentences pardoned following successful mercy appeals, although PTI expressed dissatisfaction over the limited number of pardons. The military trials had initially been halted following a Supreme Court ruling but were resumed following the court's instructions to finalize pending cases and announce judgments for those involved in the violent incidents. PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has strongly opposed the trial of civilians in military courts, citing constitutional concerns.

‘Black day for us': Indiranagar residents cry foul over groundbreaking ceremony of new stadium at Victory Ground
The Karnataka government on Thursday went ahead with the ground-breaking ceremony for an enclosed stadium in Bengaluru's Indiranagar, replacing a basketball court, the lone playground in the area, amid opposition from residents who termed it a 'black day'. The project by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) at the Victory Ground has sparked fear among the residents of Indiranagar as they feel the new enclosed space would restrict accessibility to a huge section of people, particularly children from the lower-income group. 'It was a Black Day for us, residents of Inagar, we were restrained by the Police from entering the only open playground of our area to witness a public event of encroaching our playground on a CA site using public money!! What a joke of democracy & blatant usurping of public land,' 'i change Indiranagar', a federation of resident welfare associations in Indiranagar, posted on X. The Indiranagar Basketball Club (IBBC), a private club, currently uses the ground for basketball coaching. The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by Karnataka Chief Minister's Political Secretary and MLC K Govindaraj, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B Dayanand, and BBMP Zonal Commissioner (East) Snehal R. Govindaraj, who had first announced the government's interest to construct a stadium on the Victory Ground, is also the president of Karnataka State Basketball Association and the president of Karnataka Olympics Association. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) from the BBMP has sparked concerns that the project would privatise a public space. The basketball ground at Victory Grounds in 1st Stage Indiranagar is expected to become a tensile-roofed stadium at an estimated cost of Rs 6.5 crore. Swarna Venkataraman, core member of the residents federation, told The Indian Express, 'The police restrained us from our only open playground, which we as residents maintained over the years. We were barred from accessing a public playground, which was unheard of. Converting this to a private stadium will only cut off access to the public, especially children from low-income areas who use this playground for sports and other recreational purposes.' The residents also called out BBMP zonal commissioner Snehal for attending the groundbreaking ceremony, days after she allegedly feigned ignorance over the project during a meeting with the residents. A similar proposal in 2017 to convert the basketball court into an indoor stadium was halted following opposition from residents and a stay order from the Karnataka High Court. The State Human Rights Commission had also condemned the plan, criticising attempts to restrict public access to open spaces. The Karnataka High Court has stayed the tender process for the 2107 project, noting that the question of whether the construction contributes to the improvement or a more beneficial use of the playground requires further consideration.

Vidarbha Explodes in Protest: Statehood Supporters Hoist Flag, Declare War On Maharashtra Day
Nagpur: While Maharashtra marked its formation day with celebrations, the Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) observed it as a Black Day, renewing its call for a separate Vidarbha state. At the centre of the protest was the symbolic hoisting of the Vidarbha flag at Variety Square near the Gandhi Statue by VRAS Youth President Mukesh Masurkar. Protesters wore black clothes and tied black bands to express anger and grief over decades of neglect. Chants of "Jai Vidarbha" and "Vidarbha Rajya lekar rahenge" rang through the streets. As the crowd moved toward Samvidhan Chowk, tensions rose. Protesters attempted to move forward but were intercepted and detained by police at Zero Mile. They were later taken to Sitabuldi police station. Speaking at the protest, Masurkar said, "Vidarbha has waited long enough. Maharashtra's Rs 8.14 lakh crore debt makes it impossible to address our region's problems. Unemployment is rising, farmers continue to take their own lives, and there's no future for our youth under this state." "This protest is not just symbolic. It's a demand for justice and self-determination," he said. Several senior leaders joined the protest, including Ahmed Kader, Nagpur City president Naresh Nimje, women's president Jyoti Khandekar, and many other prominent activists. They reiterated that Vidarbha's issues cannot be solved under the current state framework. "We are not against the people of Maharashtra, but against a system that ignored us for far too long," said Khandekar. The protest called on the central govt to take immediate steps toward forming a separate Vidarbha state. The hoisting of the flag on Black Day was meant to send a clear message: Vidarbha's demand is not a passing phase — it is a growing, determined movement rooted in decades of struggle.
