"Clueless" Sequel Series in Works with Alicia Silverstone
Yara Sameh Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her iconic role of Cher Horowitz in a 'Clueless' sequel series at Peacock. The show is currently in development. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the fact the show will serve as a follow-up to the cult classic film. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to write along with Jordan Weiss. All three will executive produce, with Schwartz and Savage doing so under their Fake Empire banner. Silverstone will executive produce in addition to starring. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced the film, also serve as executive producers. CBS Studios will produce in association with Universal Television. The sequel is a wholly new 'Clueless' series than the one that had been set up at Peacock in 2020 but ultimately did not go forward. That show, with a completely different creative team, was described as more of mystery series in which Cher disappeared and focused instead on her best friend, Dionne. 'Clueless' originally debuted in 1995 and is loosely based on the Jane Austen novel 'Emma.' Along with Silverstone, the cast included Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, Brittany Murphy, Donald Faison, Elisa Donovan, Breckin Meyer, and Dan Hedaya. A TV adaptation aired on ABC and then UPN from 1996 until 1999 for three seasons, with Rachel Blanchard playing Cher. This would not be the first time Silverstone has reprised the role of Cher in the past few years. She played the beloved character in a Super Bowl ad in 2023 for Rakuten. The movie helped propel Silverstone to movie stardom, with the actress going on to star in features like 'Batman & Robin,' 'Blast from the Past,' and 'Beauty Shop.' Her recent TV credits include 'American Horror Stories,' 'The Baby-Sitters Club,' and 'American Woman.' Among her upcoming projects are the Yorgos Lanthimos film 'Bugonia' and the Acorn TV series 'Irish Blood.' Silverstone is also a producer on the latter project. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. Alicia Silverstone to reprise Clueless role in sequel TV series
Alicia Silverstone will play Cher Horowitz once again in a new TV series follow-up to the hit 1995 comedy Clueless. The 48-year-old actor has been set as star and executive producer of an episodic sequel at Peacock. The show will be written and produced by Josh Shwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for Gossip Girl. The original film's writer and director, Amy Heckerling, will also join as an executive producer. Clueless, loosely based on Jane Austen's Emma, followed the life of a pampered LA teenager and her attempts to matchmake. The film, which also starred Paul Rudd and Brittany Murphy, was a sleeper hit at the box office and became an even bigger hit on home video. The film was followed by a TV series bringing back much of the cast but excluding Silverstone. It was also turned into a stage musical which opened on the West End earlier this year. 'I think people are talking about a [sequel] all the time at all times since the movie happened,' Silverstone said last year. 'Has it been 30 years yet? That always is a fun conversation. It's so lovely to see how people still love that movie. It's very nice.' Silverstone went onto star in Batman & Robin and Blast from the Past and has more recently appeared in Reptile, The Lodge and Yorgos Lanthimos's The Killing of a Sacred Deer. She will reunite with Lanthimos for his next film, Bugonia, also starring Emma Stone. She is also leading an upcoming Christmas romcom for Netflix opposite Oliver Hudson. She reprised her Clueless role for a Super Bowl advertisement in 2023 for Rakuten. There had been an attempt to turn Clueless into a mystery-based series back in 2020 which ultimately stalled. Details on the direction of the new version remain unknown.
