All that glitters for Snyman is green and gold
All that glitters for Snyman is green and gold Philip Snyman says South Africa's true colours shone through in Los Angeles as the Blitzboks brought the curtain down on their season, winning the SVNS World Championship. The head coach heaped praise on the team after a commanding weekend in the 2024-25 finale, with the Blitzboks finishing unbeaten and crowned winners yesterday. Strong performances on Saturday saw pool victories over France, Great Britain and Argentina, and the South Africans outplayed New Zealand and Spain in the knockout stages to lift the World Championship trophy for the first time. 'This team delivered an amazing performance over the weekend,' said Snyman. 'The players deserve so much credit for the way they played here in Los Angeles. We had some good parts and some bad parts to our season, but this weekend we got it all together and that is a very satisfying feeling. 'Any coach will tell you that your plan can only be as good as the buy-in from the players and then their execution thereof. This weekend it all come together. 'They really stuck to our plan, but also importantly, played the moments when it was there to exploit. They did some exceptional things on the field during this tournament and all the credit must go to them. 'Some of those moments of brilliance by the players in the final made this a special win.' Snyman believes the weekend proved that the Blitzboks are back to where they should be: 'This performance was proof of the potential of this squad. The players executed their roles so well, there was a common belief in what is possible and how to achieve that and the result is there for them to enjoy now. 'This performance finally completes the puzzle for us, and what a beautiful picture we got. This was the true colours of Springbok Sevens and I cannot be prouder of what it represented and displayed this weekend.' WATCH: Blitzboks crowned kings in LA The former skipper also reflected on the big moments of the weekend and said they 'were up for it'. 'Our defence was great, the attack worked so well, while there was this hunger in each player to use this tournament to make up for the disappointing ones we had along the way,' he said. Blitzbok captain Selvyn Davids said the effort during the weekend made him very proud. 'The guys left everything out there on the field, we gave it our all,' he said. 'That is just an amazing feeling. We fought for each other, and we fought for the badge and knowing that we achieved that was already a win for me.' The one lesson learnt from this season is that consistency is key to everything, according to Davids: 'The consistency we lacked during the year prevented us from reaching our full potential as a team. This tournament we managed to maintain the same level of excellence and that proved gold for us.' Davids, who was named Player of the Final, insisted that the performance over the weekend was a complete team effort. 'The format of only eight teams was always going to be demanding, but we managed to stay in the moment in each game,' said Davids. 'We had some dark spots during matches, but every time someone did something special to make that disappear. 'Everyone just focussed on the next job and got it done. I am so proud of this.' Snyman: Blitzboks' true colours glittered in LA
The SA Sevens team went unbeaten in the series finale, winning all five matches in Los Angeles. Blitzboks coach Philip Snyman said his 'team delivered an amazing performance' in winning the Sevens World Championship in Los Angeles on Sunday. After an up-and-down season in which the SA Sevens team won only one tournament — their home event in Cape Town in December — they put it all together in the season finale to bag the biggest trophy of the season. Snyman's men went unbeaten in LA, winning all three pool games and then also defeated New Zealand and Spain in the semi-finals and final respectively to win the title. 'Players deserve so much credit' 'This team delivered an amazing performance over the weekend,' said Snyman. 'The players deserve so much credit for the way they played here in Los Angeles. Blitzboks hope to finish season on a high note as they head to SVNS World Championship
Palesa Manaleng 2 May 2025 | 12:10 HSBC SVNS World Championship Blitzboks Blitzboks finished ninth at the HSBC SVNS in Singapore on 5 April 2025. Picture: @Blitzboks/X. JOHANNESBURG – The Blitzboks will have one last shot at bringing home silverware at the SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles at Dignity Health Sports Park on Saturday. 'We can look back at the regular series where we had a mixed bag of results, but this effort here in Los Angeles will define the season' said Blitzbok head coach Philip Snyman. South Africa finished fourth on the Sevens Series standings. Their campaign saw them win their home tournament in Cape Town, reach the final in Vancouver and finish fourth in Perth but disappoint in Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore. 'There were brilliant moments, average moments and some poor moments, but we are looking towards this weekend, not behind us. We had our review of the series and know what we were good at, or not. Our fourth place in the series was an improvement from the previous year, but we want to be remembered by more than that' said Snyman. The SVNS World Championship this weekend will be a tournament with no second chances and an opportunity where the Springbok Sevens team can deliver a performance that will do their season justice. 'To be successful this weekend, we approach this as a complete team effort where every individual will have to be on point when it comes to roles and responsibilities and to make sure that his job gets done. I believe our system is such that we will be successful if we manage that.' South Africa will face Olympic champions France, Great Britain and HSBC SVNS league winners Argentina on Saturday in Pool A of the tournament. Fiji, Spain, Australia and New Zealand are in Pool B and the top two teams in each pool will contest the semi-finals on Sunday. Philip Snyman: LA success will define Blitzboks' season
Head coach Philip Snyman says the Blitzboks are aiming for a blockbuster finish to their 2024-25 campaign at the SVNS World Championship this weekend. According to Snyman, it will be a tournament with no second chances, clinical execution and most importantly, an opportunity for the South Africans to deliver a performance that will do their season justice. South Africa will face Olympic champions France, Great Britain and SVNS league winners Argentina tomorrow in Pool A. Fiji, Spain, Australia and New Zealand are in Pool B, and the top two teams in each pool will contest the semi-finals on Sunday. 'We can look back at the regular series where we had a mixed bag of results, but this effort here in Los Angeles will define the season,' said Snyman. 'There were brilliant moments, average moments and some poor moments, but we are looking towards this weekend, not behind us. We had our review of the series and know what we were good at, or not. 'Our fourth place in the series was an improvement from the previous year, but we want to be remembered for more than that. MORE: Blitzboks can beat anyone – Van Wyk 'To be successful this weekend, we approach this as a complete team effort where every individual will have to be on point when it comes to roles and responsibilities and to make sure that his job gets done. I believe our system is such that we will be successful if we manage that.' Snyman said preparations have gone well and he was pleased with Ronald Brown, Mfundo Ndhlovu and Quewin Nortje, who joined the squad for this trip. 'We needed some new energy, given the short turnaround from Singapore, where we did not deliver,' the Blitzbok boss added. 'I am happy to say we got that from them. Overall, it will be a weekend of enjoyment, effort and energy and each of those players are able to provide that. We are in a good space.' The three pool opponents will be a tough nut to crack, but Snyman said it is expected, given that only the best eight teams are competing. 'We have won and lost against all three during the season, so it will come down to the effort of that match. There are no easy games and a clinical execution will be the difference.'
