Konami and Bloober Team Officially Announced Remake of the Original Silent Hill
Image via: Konami In a long-awaited move, Konami has officially announced a full remake of the original Silent Hill (1999), entrusting the project to Bloober Team. The surprise announcement, which took place as part of Konami's 'Press Start' digital showcase, saw a fog-drenched teaser accompanied by the iconic score of Akira Yamaoka welcoming gamers back to the origin point of psychological survival horror. Though the announcement lacked a potential release window, or which platforms it will support, it's an exciting new chapter for the franchise. Fresh off reimagining Silent Hill 2 to critical acclaim for its visual score and emotional depth, Bloober Team is now set to reimagine the game that first established the town's terrifying mood. Bloober Team and Konami: A Growing Partnership The partnership between Bloober Team and Konami seems to be developing into a permanent bond. Earlier this year, Bloober CEO Piotr Babieno highlighted the strength of this partnership, mentioning it 'incredibly fruitful.' He hinted that the studios are collaborating on 'something really amazing,' but kept his cards close about the details. For starters, the game is nearly 30 years old, quite an achievement considering the state of horror games that spend a couple of dedicated months between development and release. Returning to the first entry is the most logical move narratively. It is a true sequel to the first game, so trailing back and remaking the original lays a much stronger foundation for any potential future remake. Curiously, Silent Hill has been through this cycle once before. 2009's Silent Hill: Shattered Memories reinterpreted the original for the Wii with psychological profiling and an adapted narrative. Whether Bloober's upcoming remake will draw from that reimagining or stick more closely to the 1999 PlayStation classic is still to be seen. BREAKING!! Silent Hill 1 Remake CONFIRMED by Konami!! What's Next for the Franchise? With Silent Hill due to release this September and Bloober Team's very own sci-fi horror adventure Cronos: The New Dawn coming out this Autumn too, all may be waiting a while for the new Silent Hill remake to reappear with major news. Yet, one thing is certain, Silent Hill is anything but silent.

Konami and Bloober Team are remaking the original Silent Hill
A remake of the original Silent Hill is in development, it was revealed during Konami's Press Start stream on Thursday. An image announcing that another Silent Hill game from developer Bloober Team was in the works appeared during the stream. It was accompanied by music from the first game in the series. The official Japanese Silent Hill account on X later clarified that Bloober is modernizing the original 1999 entry. Back in February, it emerged that Bloober is making a new title based on Konami's intellectual property. The two companies previously worked on a remake of Silent Hill 2 , which was released in October and, by January, had sold more than 2 million copies. It was also one of our favorite games of 2024 . So, going back to the game that started it all makes a lot of sense. Konami and Bloober haven't revealed any other details about the remake yet, such as when it's likely to arrive. There was plenty more on offer during Konami's showcase, including a behind-the-scenes developer diary for Silent Hill f . The first game in the series to be set in Japan will drop on September 25 . Before that, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater (a remake of MGS 3 ) will hit PS5, PC and Xbox Series X/S on August 28 . Konami revealed on the stream that the Xbox version will include gameplay from the Bomberman series — the PlayStation and Steam variants have an Ape Escape tie-in. It also emerged that Metal Gear Solid Delta will have a brand-new multiplayer mode called Fox Hunt. This is a camouflage-based hide and seek mode that builds on the stealth aspect of the series. You can expect more details on that soon. Press Start included looks at some other games, such as Suikoden Star Leap (a new RPG adventure set in the world of Suikoden for PC and mobile). Suikoden I&II HD Remasters are getting upgrades on Nintendo Switch 2 as well. A demo for action RPG Edens Zero (based on a manga and anime of the same name) has dropped, while there was a peek at action-adventure platformer Darwin's Paradox , in which you play as an octopus.

Bloober Team is making another game with Konami following Silent Hill 2's success
Last year's Silent Hill 2 remake worked out pretty well for Konami and the studio that took on the project, Bloober Team. The two sides have decided to continue their partnership, as Bloober is making a new title based on Konami's intellectual property. Since the studio develops horror games, it's likely that this will be a fresh entry in the Silent Hill series. There is a possibility that it could be a Castlevania game instead. But I'm hoping the companies decide to get really weird and make a spooky Bomberman or something. "The trust built upon the success of Silent Hill 2 laid the foundation for signing another agreement for a new project," the companies said. "The deal aligns with Bloober Team's strategic plan to expand its internal development division within a first-party framework." Konami will publish the upcoming game and retain the rights to it. The Silent Hill 2 remake arrived in early October and sold well, moving over 2 million copies by the end of January It was critically acclaimed and received several nominations at The Game Awards. The remake was also one of Engadget's favorite games of 2024. If, indeed, Bloober is making a completely new Silent Hill game, it won't be the only such title that's in the works. Two Silent Hill games that were announced in 2022 have yet to arrive: Silent Hill Townfall from Annapurna Interactive and No Code, and Silent Hill f from Ryūkishi07.
