‘Moon over Buffalo': Hilarious farce at Bloomington Theatre
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — An evening of non-stop laughter and a whirlwind of mishaps and misunderstandings awaits in 'Moon Over Buffalo' opening May 9, at Bloomington Community Players Theatre. Dave Krostal, who plays George Hay in the play, told WMBD This Morning the play is about an aging couple of famous Broadway darlings attempting to make one more big splash on stage as television moves in to change their lives. The fast-paced farce, all takes place all in one day, and mostly all in one room. Krostal says of the plot 'two shows really kind of get mixed up at some point, so different changes of costume, people coming out at the wrong time, lots of doors closing and opening, it's definitely a farse.' The zany Carol Burnett, who had taken a 30-year hiatus from stage acting, played Charlette Hay in the 1995 Broadway version. Envisioning her personality, Krostal said, will give people a sense of what to expect. 'It's a lot of fun, its's a wild, wild ride, it's about an hour and 45 minutes, but it's nonstop,' he said. Moon over Buffalo, plays May 9 through 11 and May 16 through 18. Fridays and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. while the Sunday show starts at 2:30 p.m. Tickets range $9 to $17. Beloved movie now a play in Bloomington
PEORIA, Ill, (WMBD) — The jukebox musical movie 'Rock of Ages', with smash hits of the 80s, is a live play at Bloomington Community Players Theatre, every weekend in March. Cast members Shireen Banigan and Andrew Crisp stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk about the upcoming production. The show is about a girl named Sherrie Christian, played by Banigan. Sherrie is 'fresh off the bus from Paola, Kansas,' and she is looking to try and pursue her dreams of becoming an actress in Los Angeles, Banigan said. Another character in the show is Drew Boley, played by Crisp. Boley is a 'wanna-be rock star' who aspires to be the next big star who experiences setbacks, according to Crisp. Crisp explained how he feels the musical really encapsulates everything about the 80s. 'It's a jukebox musical that's just based off of the era of 80s rock, and it's a show that just encapsulates that era,' he said. Banigan added that the show is an 80s rock show that 'has a plot.' 'There's so much music, and there's so much dance, we're just excited to share it with an audience, we're ready for an audience to laugh along with us,' said Banigan. Some of the songs featured in the musical include 'Don't Stop Believing' by Journey and 'Here I Go Again' by Whitesnake, among other big hits, they said. Rock of Ages plays at Bloomington Community Players Theatre, 201 Robinhood Lane, in Bloomington, March 7-9, 14-16, and 21-23. Tickets range from $9 to $20 on the community players' website.
