Information and registration links for the following opportunities can be found online at Come help Bloomington Creative Glass Center at their 4th annual cultural celebration — "Pattern & Ritual: A Celebration of African Arts from Ghana to Kenya" on April 26. This is a family-friendly opportunity open to volunteers over the age of 10. Two shifts are available, the early shift runs from 11 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., the late shift runs from 2:45 to 7 p.m., both shifts run during the event. Volunteers will help with the information table, crowd control, running various activities, assisting with blown glass demonstrations, etc. This is an outdoor event. Volunteers 16 years and older are needed Saturday, April 26, to help at Bloomington Parks and Recreation's Children's Expo. This event is a parent's treasure trove for informational, educational, and recreational resources for school-age children. The Expo continues to offer free health screenings by qualified healthcare professionals for children ages 10 years and younger. Volunteers can sign up to help between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., or 1:30 to 5 p.m. Duties include helping supervise activities, greeting participants, providing general event support, and assisting with vendor hospitality. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have an Underage Waiver of Liability signed by a parent or guardian. The city of Bloomington is looking for volunteers to participate in a Downtown Community Cleanup Day on Monday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., in preparation for Indiana University's graduation weekend. The cleanup will focus on making the downtown area more welcoming for residents and visitors by picking up litter, pulling weeds, and improving the overall appearance of public spaces. City staff will lead the cleanup teams and provide all necessary tools and equipment. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside Mayor Kerry Thomson as part of this community effort. The day will be spearheaded by city staff and Brighten Bloomington crews, a Centerstone Job Placement Partnership with the city's Public Works department. Information and registration links for the following opportunities can be found online at Spencer Pride Inc.'s mission is to educate the public about rural LGBTQ+ people and issues to make Indiana a safer and more welcoming place. Volunteers are needed to work in teams to facilitate their retail shop operations (including point-of-sale purchases, re-stocking, and cleaning) and support other services hosted at the commUnity center. Good customer service skills are required; prior retail experience is NOT required; volunteers must be 18 years or older and pass a background check. Commitment is 5-plus hours per month. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Bloomington Lincoln Street Skateboard Program provides members a chance to learn all about skateboarding and the basics of safety, equipment, and skills needed to skateboard! Volunteers support the staff leading the program and help members who need extra support. A great volunteer will have basic skateboard or longboard experience. Skills taught in this program are Stance, Pushing, Stopping, Carving, Turning, Falling, Drop Down, etc. If you can ride a board on flat ground, you have all the skills needed to be an expert in this program. Volunteers do not need to bring anything, as this program uses their gym-safe skateboards. They also have helmets, pads, and skate tools that members can use. For questions, contact cpayne@ Join the Indiana University Asian Culture Center and the city of Bloomington at the kickoff celebration of the 2025 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on March 27 at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater (BCT). The event's featured activities include a showcase of cultural performances, a fashion show, arts and crafts for kids, and Asian food trucks. Volunteers are needed for various activities between 3 and 8:30 p.m. with multiple shifts open. Opportunities include set up, tear down, crowd control, backstage assistants, photographers, and more. Information and registration links for the following opportunities can be found online at The Friends of the Library is delighted to bring Matthew Cordell's Neighborhood to Monroe County, an exhibit curated by the National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature. This exhibit, at the Downtown Branch of Monroe County Public Library, is made possible thanks to a generous bequest to the Friends from Marian Armstrong. This special exhibit features 88 original illustrations created by Matthew Cordell featured in children's picture books written by him and other authors. Volunteers 16 years and up are needed between Feb. 3 to March 23: Monday-Thursday 3-7 p.m., Friday-Sunday 1-5 p.m. Volunteers are needed as greeters, to answer questions, and to provide directional guidance to visitors. Individuals or group volunteers are welcome. Volunteer schedules will be for two-hour time periods, but volunteers are welcome to work as many hours and days as they would like during the exhibit. Want to help a mom opossum create a cozy den to raise her babies as she recovers from being hit by a car? Or feed a watermelon to capybaras rescued from neglect and abuse? Help shave a guinea pig before they get surgery, or take a giant turtle for a walk? Animals at the Pipsqueakery were all rescued from one sad story or another. Volunteers 18 years and up are what give these lives a happy middle and ending. No day is the same, and volunteers will care for a wide range of animals and do various tasks — volunteering is customized to your wants and abilities. Daily tasks can be summarized as feeding, cleaning and medicating as necessary. No previous experience is needed! Scheduling is extremely flexible; average shifts are about 4 hours long, 1 time weekly; however, as long as you have eight hours each month, you're considered an active volunteer. New volunteers start in the afternoons and evenings as that best fits other team members' availability, but once you're more independent, morning times are also an option.
