POLL: Pierce Brosnan in Mobland - worst Irish accent of all time?
While all eyes are on the brilliant Tom Hardy in the top class crime drama, Mobland, all Irish ears are trained on Pierce Brosnan's Irish accent. Brosnan, 71, who was born in Drogheda, plays ageing but still viciously dangerous Irish crime boss, Conrad Harrigan. In terms of his performative skills, there's virtually zero criticism that can be levelled at Brosnan here but, and it's a sizeable but, his Irish accent leaves a lot to be desired. There have been rumours that Brosnan based his accent, which is supposed a Kerry brogue, on a famous politician from the county. Brosnan certainly tried his best but in this instance, it fell well short of the mark and ends up sounding like a Welsh man who spent the last 20 years leaving in Delhi, India. Brosnan's accent has been the subject of much online discussion but one thing most people seem to agree on is that whilst pretty awful, it's far from the worst Irish accent of all time. After much debate, we have narrowed the contenders for the worst Irish accent of all time down to six. Tommy Lee Jones' accent in 1994 movie Blown Away is without doubt one of the worst and I defy anyone to make it through the full 121 minutes of that movie without hearing our collective Irish ancestors turning in theirs graves. If Mr. Lee Jones doesn't annoy you the way it does others you could always go for Julia Roberts in 1996 epic, Michael Collins. Roberts plays Michael Collins' lover Kitty Kiernan and while she doesn't butcher the Irish accent she makes it sound utterly comical to the point it almost becomes distracting. We could have an Irish accent poll without including the weaponsgrade disaster that was Tom Cruise in Ron Howard's 1992 film, Far and Away. There's no other way to describe Cruise's accent as dreadful and even now, in his 60s, he would still struggle with what was has become his mission impossible. The less said about Gerard Butler in PS I Love You and serious thought should be given to everyone in Wild Mountain Thyme - awful, awful, awful. If your choice of worst Irish accent of all time didn't make our shortlist, make sure to let us know in the comments section. Top of the morning to you, begorra!

Carrie Underwood moved to tears on ‘American Idol' during audition by contestant who lost sister to overdose
'American Idol' contestant Samantha Ray paid tribute to her late sister with an audition that brought judge Carrie Underwood to tears during Sunday's new episode. Ray sang 'I Hope you Dance' by Lee Ann Womack and opened up about losing her sister Taylor, who died in February of a drug overdose. 'I was thinking about my sister a lot,' Ray said when country singer and 'Idol' judge Luke Bryan asked her what she was thinking about while singing the song. 'She had two little boys and knowing they don't have their mom anymore is really heartbreaking.' 'I'm here for her,' Ray added. When Bryan tossed it to Underwood to share her feedback, the 'Blown Away' singer was visibly choked up and asked fellow judge Lionel Richie to speak first instead while she composed herself. 'I'm teary-eyed,' Underwood said. 'We didn't know what you were thinking about but we knew you were thinking about something and that's being a storyteller, that pulls people in. That was really special.' Richie said Ray had the 'absolute trigger on emotions' and executed her audition 'perfectly,' and Bryan appreciated that she sang a classic song her 'own way.' All three judges gave Ray yeses, sending the 22-year-old stay-at-home-mom to Hollywood. 'My sister used to sing too; this was also her dream,' Ray said after the audition. 'Losing my sister felt like I lost a big part of me. She was everything.' Ray said she wishes her sister was here with her but, she added, 'I have her watching over me.'

Incredible father-daughter duet makes Carrie Underwood change her vote on ‘American Idol'
'American Idol' alum and new judge Carrie Underwood isn't too proud to admit when she's wrong. On Sunday's episode of 'American Idol,' contestant Mikaela Bautista wowed Underwood's fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie when she sang a soaring rendition of 'Saving All My Love for You' by Whitney Houston during her Los Angeles audition. Bautista, however, failed to get Underwood's vote, with the 'Blown Away' singer telling her that she wanted to hear more 'emotion' and 'connection' in her performance. With two yeses, Bautista still made it through to Hollywood and was rewarded with a golden ticket. She joined by her whole family to celebrate, including her father Vhen Bautista, who was a famed Ilocano singer in the Philippines and someone she'd called an inspiration earlier in her audition. Responding to a request for a duet from Underwood, the pair launched into a powerful duet of 'The Prayer' by Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion. Clearly moved, Underwood had a change of heart following the tear-inducing dad-and-daughter moment. 'You weren't thinking about it, you were just singing!' Underwood told Bautista. 'Can I change my judgement? I would like to strike my previous and you have three yeses.' Bautista and her family jumped for joy at Underwood's reversal. Later sharing a hug with her dad, Bautista told him, 'this one is for both of us' as she clutched her golden ticket. 'Thank you for everything, dad,' she said. 'American Idol' airs on ABC on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
