Violent storm hits Wichita golf course set to host Korn Terry Tour event this week
Mother Nature was a nuisance all weekend at the U.S. Open in Oakmont, but a much more dangerous version struck a different golf event early Tuesday morning.
A violent storm seems to have significantly damaged Crestview Country Club and much of the Korn Ferry Tour's infrastructure set up for the 2025 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open, which is scheduled to begin Thursday.
The storm system — which produced winds stronger than 100mph — knocked down trees and caused widespread power outages across Wichita and the surrounding area, according to KWCH in Kansas.
Crestview Country Club has hosted this event every year since 2001.
Tom Lehman won the inaugural Wichita Open in 1990, and the tournament has served as a launching pad for several stellar PGA Tour careers, with other past champions like David Duval (1993), Jason Dufner (2001) and Scott Piercy (2008).
Taylor Dickson won the 2024 Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Wichita Open.
