Boalsburg hosting many events for memorial Day weekend
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) – As Memorial Day approaches, the historic town of Boalsburg is hosting its annual celebration to celebrate the holiday.
The tradition in Boalsburg began in October of 1864. Emma Hunter and her friend Sophie Keller were visiting family graves and spreading flowers, not knowing they were participating in the first Memorial Day service. The two made a pact to meet again on the same day the following year, before it eventually became a community event.
Fast forward to 2025, the weekend is packed with many things to do throughout town, including the fireman's carnival. The schedule for the weekend is as follows:
Saturday, May 24:
10 to 12 Preregistration & T-shirt Pick Up for Memorial Day Run @ Blue Spring Park
8:00 to 9:45 – A Walk to Remember our Fallen – Pennsylvania Military Museum
10:00 to 4:00 – Pennsylvania Military Museum Battle Cry of Freedom: A Civil War Experience
10:00 to 4:00 – Outdoor Living History Displays, Museum Info & Merchandise Tent
11:00 – History Mystery Kid's Program
1:00 – Historic Weapons Display
2:00 – Drop-In Tour @ Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum ($15/person)
3:30 – Parade Line Up Begins
5:00 – Boalsburg Fireman's Parade
Sunday, May 25:
12:00 to 2:00 – Preregistration Memorial Day Run @ Blue Spring Park
2:00 – Drop-In Tour @ The Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum ($15/person)

10:30 to 11:30 – SCAHS Jazz Band

12:30 – Maypole Dance, Central PA Dance Workshop
