Animal Charity warns of text message scam
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) – Animal Charity of Ohio is warning its supporters about a scam trying to mislead people who want to donate to the nonprofit.
The Boardman-based organization says some people are receiving text messages, asking for money for Animal Charity.
The scam asks you to donate to a fake Animal Charity Venmo account.
Do not send money to this account. If you get a text message, you're asked to report it to Venmo and the Federal Trade Commission.
Animal Charity says it does not request payments like this. If you want to donate to Animal Charity, you can do that on their website.
