Panthers officially announce deals for 4 free agents on Wednesday Welcome—as of 4:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 12—to the new league year, Carolina Panthers fans! And with the new league year comes some new faces . . . at least officially. This afternoon, the Panthers were officially able to announce deals with four free agents. As first reported on Monday, the team has come to terms with defensive linemen Bobby Brown III and Tershawn Wharton, outside linebacker Patrick Jones II and safety Tre'von Moehrig. The reported terms for each pact are as follows: Carolina also acknowledged that three of their own internal free agents agreed to deals elsewhere—including safety Xavier Woods (Tennessee Titans), punter Johnny Hekker (Tennessee) and defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. (Las Vegas). Panthers agree to terms with DL Bobby Brown III

Panthers agree to terms with DL Bobby Brown III The Carolina Panthers have a clear prerogative to fix their defense. According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the team has agreed to terms with former Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Bobby Brown III. Per ESPN's Jermey Fowler, the deal is a three-year, $21 million pact that can be worth up to $27 million. Brown III, a 2020 first-team All-SEC selection out of Texas A&M, was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL draft. He's gone on to amass 84 combined tackles (nine for a loss), half a sack, two quarterback hits and one pass defensed over four pro campaigns. The 24-year-old started in a career-high 16 games for Los Angeles this past season. At 6-foot-4 and 332 pounds, Brown III could end up as the starting nose tackle for the Panthers and defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero in 2025. Evero has already crossed paths with Brown III, when he was serving as the Rams' secondary coach and defensive passing game coordinator for their Super Bowl LVI-winning team in 2021. In addition to Brown III, the Panthers have also come to agreements on Monday with safety Tre'von Moehrig and outside linebacker Patrick Jones II. Bobby Brown III rants about limited role with Rams, hints at leaving in free agency

Bobby Brown III rants about limited role with Rams, hints at leaving in free agency Bobby Brown III is set to be a pending free agent for the first time in his career, having spent the last four years with the Los Angeles Rams. The former fourth-round pick out of Texas A&M has played 49 games since 2021 but has just 0.5 sacks and 84 total tackles – most of which came in the last two seasons. With his contract expiring, Brown sounds ready to leave Los Angeles and start fresh elsewhere. He went on a rant on X (formerly Twitter) Saturday, voicing a lot of frustration with his role. Never known as much of a pass rusher, Brown seems to want more playing time and opportunities to get after the quarterback. It all started when Stu Jackson, a writer for the Rams, wrote about Brown being a stout run defender. Brown took it as a 'backhanded compliment,' saying he's more than just that. "That's all I've ever been allowed to do," Brown wrote. He didn't stop there. He continued to reply to fans who responded to his posts, most of whom agreed with Brown's take that he was underutilized in L.A. One fan even said he'd like to see Brown get an opportunity elsewhere, which the big defensive tackle seemed to agree with. One fan suggested that Brown voice his frustration with coaches in training camp, to which Brown replied, "did that already." There's no question the Rams have some young talent on the defensive line, led by Kobie Turner and Braden Fiske, but Brown isn't old by any means. He even pointed out that he's just 24 years old and is still younger than everyone on the D-line besides one player (Tyler Davis). We'll see how this saga plays out but Brown doesn't sound like a guy who's itching to return to the team that drafted him. And as frustrated as he may be, he hasn't exactly produced as a pass rusher. According to Pro Football Focus, he had a career-high 230 pass-rushing snaps last season and recorded only three total pressures. In his career, he has 14 total pressures in 49 games with only a half-sack in four years. He may want to get more opportunities to rush the passer, but on third down, it's hard to make a case for him to be on the field over guys like Turner and Fiske – who had 62 and 59 pressures in 2024, respectively. It might be best for both sides to go their separate ways.
