British couple die in Spain after Ferrari plunges into river
A British couple have died in Spain after a Ferrari sports car they were driving plunged from a mountain road into a river. The man, 78, and woman, 58, were driving near the town of Boca de Huérgano when the car left the road and plummeted down a steep hillside into the Yuso river in the northern province of Leon, the Guardia Civil police force said. The couple were part of a group of about 20 other Ferrari owners taking part in a rally, according to reports. Shortly before 2pm on Saturday the emergency services received a call alerting them to the sports car, which had fallen into the shallow river from the N621. A British couple have died in northern Spain after the sports car they were travelling in came off the road and landed in a river. The accident happened in a mountainous area in the region of Leó Civil Guard said the victims, a 78-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, were driving through a rural area near the town of Boca de Huérgano when the Ferrari they were in came off the road and plunged into the Yuso river.A Foreign Office spokesperson said: "We are supporting the families of a British man and woman who died in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities." Local authorities said firefighters had to clear thick vegetation in order to reach the car, which was upside down and partially submerged in water. Both occupants of the car were already dead when their bodies were Civil Guard said the cause of the accident is not yet clear.
