Miss SA withdraws Supranational licence: 'Nothing to do with Mia'
Miss South Africa – Miss SA – has officially cut ties with Miss Supranational, and will no longer be sending a representative on behalf of the organisation. This comes two years after the South African organisation cut ties with Miss World, which is now run by licence owner, Carol Bouwer. Miss Supra is set to take place on 27 June in Poland. In a social media statement, Miss SA confirmed rumours that it would not only not send a representative – Mia Le Roux – to Miss Supranational, but would part ways with the international pageant altogether. It shared: 'The Miss South Africa Organisation has decided not to participate in the Miss Supranational 2025 competition and will not be renewing its licence for the international pageant. The statement addressed 'the fake news circulating', adding that the decision was 'not attributed to Miss South Africa 2024, Mia Le Roux, nor the runner-up, Nompumelelo Maduna'. The announcement comes shortly after Mia revealed that she would not be representing the country in Poland. The differently-abled beauty queen – who is partially deaf – pulled out of the Miss Universe pageant last year due to health concerns. Miss SA first participated in the Miss Supranational pageant in 2021, when representative Thato Mosehle was crowned the second up. A year later, Lalela Mswane – the South African titleholder – competed in the international pageant, which she won. In 2023, Miss SA runner-up Ayanda Thabethe placed in the Top 5. Last year, Bryoni Govender was named Miss Supranational Africa 2024. Meanwhile, Miss SA CEO Stephanie Weil has congratulated the new South African Miss Supranational, Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala. Bokang – who was crowned Miss SA in 2010 – is married to former Bafana Bafana player Simphiwe Tshabalala. 'I feel so honoured that I am the new director of Miss Supranational South Africa. I am so excited. And I cannot wait to see lives changed through this beautiful platform', Bokang said in a social media announcement.
