Midrand Striders master's runner, Sharon Newman, bags podium finishes

The Midrand Striders Running Club is exceptionally proud of its master's runner, Sharon Newman, who recently achieved a remarkable victory by securing first place in the master's category at the Colgate Road Race 32km event. The Colgate Road Race, organised by the Boksburg Athletic Club, is a highly regarded event that serves as a crucial preparatory race for the renowned Comrades Marathon. Newman's participation and success in this race highlight her commitment to excellence and her strong standing in the local running community. On April 26, she competed in the 2025 Loskop Marathon Series at Loskopdam, where she earned a well-deserved silver medal. Her dedication continued on May 1 at the Carnival City Marathon's 42km race, held at the Carnival City Sports Grounds in Brakpan, where she finished as the second-fastest master runner. The Jackie Mekler Memorial Race in Centurion saw Newman once again finishing on the podium after finishing second in the masters. The club takes great pride in Newman's accomplishments and extends its heartfelt congratulations to her. Colgate Race: These roads will be affected

The Boksburg Athletic Club (BAC) urges motorists and residents on the Colgate Race route in Boksburg South, Parkrand, the CBD and Boksburg East to be aware of interruptions on race day (May 4). The route starts in Jubilee Road. The runners will run towards Brakpan, turning off into Barry Marais Road. They will then turn onto Van Wyk Louw Drive, where the first water point will be. The runners will follow Van Wyk Louw Drive until they turn onto Heidelberg Road, where the second water point will be. They then turn onto Leeuwpoort Street and continue until they reach the third water point outside the Colgate premises. After Colgate, they will turn onto Van Dyk Road for a short distance and then into Power Street, Brakpan Road and Lonie Road and continue until they turn into the stadium gates in Dudley Smith Road. The 15km runners will run onto the stadium track to complete their run, while the 32km runners will continue out of the back stadium gates and run another loop of the above route. To add an extra 2km to the 32km race, the runners will do a loop in Boksburg South, running on the streets of Snyman, Dagama, Stanbury, Dick King, Walton and Dundee before rejoining the 15km route. Don't miss out, enter now for the Colgate Race Time is running out for local runners to enter for the Colgate Race on May 4 at the Boksburg Stadium. The Boksburg Athletic Club invites runners of all fitness levels and community members who want to run their first road race to enter. The race includes the main 32km race, a double lapper around Boksburg South, Parkrand, CBD and parts of Boksburg East, as well as the 15km and 5km fun run. Twins Carol and Cobie Smith clinched first and second place in the women's race while Clifford Malatjie clocked 01:50:06 to win the men's race at last year's event. Qhubeka AC's Kabelo Mwahla and Gillian Farquharson, formerly of Nedbank Running Club, won the men's and women's 15km events, while Silas Matlou and Trinity Henning clinched the 5km bragging rights. The entry fee for the 32km is R350 and R250 for the 15km. To run the 5km race, you will pay R130 and the first 7 000 entrants will receive goodie bags and a T-shirt.
