Guernsey archaeological finds feature on new set of stamps
Guernsey Post is to issue a new set of stamps depicting archaeological finds unearthed in the postal service said the series of six stamps reflected this year's Europa theme of National Archaeological Discoveries. They include a silver coin uncovered in Sark in 1719 that features Atevla Vlatos, once a ruler of the Remi tribe in northern France, while another features the standing stone Gran'mère du Chimquière at the gate to St Martin's archaeologist Dr Philip de Jersey, who assisted the philatelic bureau with the stamps, said the set celebrated the bailiwick's "extraordinarily rich archaeological heritage".
The two Europa stamps in the set include an ancient carving from the Bonded Store in St Peter Port and an early jug fragment that was discovered by divers in St Peter Port Post said the stamps were available for pre-order ahead of their issue date on 1 May.
