China tells France 'all stakeholders' should play role in Ukraine peace deal
China called for "all stakeholders" to be involved in Ukraine peace talks and pledged to work with Paris against "unipolar hegemony" during a call between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and a top French diplomat. Emmanuel Bonne, diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, called Wang to discuss Ukraine on Tuesday - the same day that US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin agreed on a partial ceasefire halting strikes against Ukraine's energy infrastructure. The US has been engaged in intensive diplomacy with Russia and Ukraine over the past month in an effort to reach an end to the three-year conflict. But Trump's rapprochement with Putin, who has shown no intention to cease control of occupied Ukrainian territory, has unsettled many in Europe who feel left out of negotiations that could undermine the continent's security. China has advocated for Europe's role in the peace process, and many analysts believe this could allow Beijing to improve relations with the continent amid a fractured transatlantic alliance. In the phone call on Tuesday, Wang told Bonne that China was ready to work with Europe to continue to make efforts for peace. "China has advocated resolving the crisis through dialogue and negotiation from the very beginning and welcomes all efforts towards a ceasefire," Wang said. "This process should respect the will of the parties concerned, should not be imposed by a third party, and should not only serve the interests of any one country." "China supports the achievement of a fair, lasting and binding peace agreement acceptable to all parties concerned, and believes that all parties and stakeholders should participate in the peace talks process in due course," he added. According to the Chinese foreign ministry, Bonne told Wang that France was willing to strengthen cooperation with China on Ukraine and looked forward to Beijing "playing an important role in reaching a just, stable and sustainable peace agreement". China has positioned itself as a peacemaker in the Ukraine war. The country has sent a special envoy to Europe and worked with the Global South to promote peace talks in international settings. But its peace efforts have often met with scepticism due to its strong ties with Russia throughout the war. China's relations with the European Union have also been strained by trade disputes. The 27-member bloc slapped tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles last year. Beijing retaliated with trade investigations into a range of EU products, including imposing provisional tariffs on brandy from France. Wang called for consultations to resolve the trade disputes with the bloc. Bonne said France opposed trade wars and tariff wars and was willing to properly resolve economic and trade frictions with China. Both the EU and France are in negotiations with China over their trade disputes, with European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen recently softening her tone on trade tensions with China as Trump made tariff threats against the bloc. During the call with Bonne, Wang also slammed "unipolar hegemony" in an apparent reference to the US. "China is willing to maintain close high-level exchanges with France ... reject placing one country's self-interest above the common interests of all nations and prevent the world from returning to the law of the jungle," Wang said. Bonne said France would work with China to "resist bloc confrontation", according to the foreign ministry. The Post reported in December that Macron was planning a trip to China this year. President Xi Jinping made a state visit to France last year. China and the EU are planning high-level meetings this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Earlier this week, the Financial Times reported that Premier Li Qiang would travel to Brussels later this year to meet von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa for the occasion. Blood Donation Offers Unexpected Health Benefits - Jordan News
A recent study has revealed that regular blood donation may provide health benefits that go beyond saving the lives of others. A team of scientists from the Francis Crick Institute conducted a study involving 217 men who donated blood more than 100 times, comparing them with 212 men who donated blood fewer than 10 times. اضافة اعلان The results showed that frequent blood donation is associated with mutations in the DNMT3A gene, which plays a key role in blood cell production. In laboratory experiments, the scientists sought to understand why this mutation is common among frequent blood donors. They exposed genetically modified human blood cells to the hormone erythropoietin (EPO), which helps regulate red blood cell production. They found that cells carrying the DNMT3A mutation grew 50% faster when exposed to this hormone compared to normal cells. Regular blood donation increases EPO levels in the body, which enhances the regeneration of stem cells and improves blood health. Dr. Dominique Bonne, head of the Blood Stem Cell Laboratory at the Crick Institute and the lead author of the study, stated: "Our study sheds light on how our genes interact with the environment and how we age. It seems that activities that reduce the stress on blood cell production enhance stem cell regeneration, supporting their healthy growth instead of causing disease." In another experiment, the scientists mixed cells with the DNMT3A mutation with cells exposed to leukemia, and found that cells from frequent blood donors grew at a faster rate. This suggests that regular donation may strengthen healthy cells and limit the growth of cancerous cells. However, the scientists emphasized the need for further studies to determine the exact effect of blood donation on cancer risk, particularly as blood donors are typically healthy individuals, which may affect the results. Bonne clarified, "Our sample size is relatively small, so we cannot conclusively say that blood donation reduces mutations linked to leukemia. However, this study provides valuable information about how certain mutations impact blood cell health." In addition to its potential role in cancer prevention, regular blood donation may also help lower blood pressure. A study involving 292 blood donors found that individuals with high blood pressure saw improvements in their readings after regular donations, with more noticeable improvements the more often they donated. Rockford Ald. Mark Bonne cruises to City Council victory
Ald. Mark Bonne was cruising to an easy victory over a political newcomer in Tuesday's Democratic primary to win a second term on Rockford City Council representing the 14th Ward on the city's southeast side. Bonne, 62, is a Rockford native, East High School graduate and former Rockford Register Star journalist. With 67% of the precincts reporting so far, Bonne has won 382 votes, or 78%, compared with 108 votes, or 22%, for software engineer Ali Abuihmoud, 28, according to unofficial election results. Without a Republican opponent, Bonne is expected to appear on April 1 consolidated election ballots unopposed. During the campaign, Bonne said that he has earned a reputation for asking "tough questions, being unafraid to oppose power brokers and going the extra mile to deliver" results. Bonne promised that during a second term he would work to expand the city's tax base and reduce the property tax burden on residents; to support law enforcement with funding and technology; and to support education in the city with support for Rockford Promise scholarships among other programs. His opponent, Abuihmoud, is an East High School graduate who was hoping to become the first Muslim American to serve on City Council. Abuihmoud said he wanted to be elected to City Council to improve quality of life for all residents.
