Man killed in crash that caused oil spill northeast of Edmonton

RCMP said the oil tanker crashed and rolled over on Range Road 485 in the Municipal District of Bonnyville at around 2:41 p.m. Responding officers found the tanker on its roof in a small creek. The 66-year-old driver was dead. No other vehicles were involved. The crash caused an oil leak and closed the road for a few hours. An Alberta dangerous goods inspector was called in, and Alberta Energy representatives are overseeing the oil cleanup. No other details about the crash have been released. Bonnyville is about 120 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.

Elizabeth Métis Settlement deaths ruled homicide, suicide

A pair of deaths on the Elizabeth Métis Settlement have been ruled a homicide and suicide. RCMP on Tuesday confirmed the two people who were found during and after a house fire on May 21 were a 58-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man who both lived in the home. Corp. Troy Savinkoff said the man was responsible for both deaths and police are not looking for any suspects. He said they were not killed by the fire. Elizabeth Métis Settlement is located in the Municipal District of Bonnyville, north of Lloydminster.

2 deaths ruled suspicious after fire on Métis settlement

Police say two deaths on the Elizabeth Métis Settlement are suspicious. The bodies were found at the scene of a fire at a home on Township Road 610 on Wednesday. Firefighters pulled one dead person out while they were still putting out flames, while the second person was found after the blaze had been extinguished. An autopsy will be done on both people. The Alberta RCMP's major crime unit is in charge of the investigation. The home sustained 'extensive damage' in the fire, Mounties said. Elizabeth Métis Settlement is located in the Municipal District of Bonnyville, north of LLoydminster.
