Oprah Winfrey's 'Riveting' April Book Club Pick Is About One of Hollywood's Most Famous Moms
With her book club, Oprah Winfrey shines a light on fascinating stories, universal struggles, and, of course, authors who deserve a little more attention. With her latest selection, while we all know who the author is, their book will have us seeing them in a whole new light.
On April 22, Winfrey announced that her latest pick is Beyoncé and Solange's mom Tina Knowles's new memoir, Matriarch.

'I am just delighted to tell you about the next Oprah's Book Club selection,' Winfrey said on Instagram. 'I'm telling you, I started reading in the galleys and I could not put it down. I was so impressed that I wanted all of you to also know about Matriarch by Miss Tina Knowles.'
Winfrey then gave a short summary of Knowles' story. 'Beginning with her life as a young girl in the 1950s, Matriarch details how Tina overcomes so many obstacles growing up in a segregated Galveston, Texas, to pursue her dreams far beyond anything society ever expected of a young woman,' she said.
'You're gonna want to clear your schedule, I tell you, when you start this book, as you will be totally riveted by the twists and the turns of this deeply personal and compelling story,' Winfrey said.
To Tina, the support from Winfrey is extra special. 'When I heard her voice [on the phone], I cried!' Knowles said in an episode of Winfrey's podcast, Oprah's Book Club: Presented by Starbucks. 'I have such a rich history with Oprah.'
'Writing a book about your life is a scary thing,' Knowles admitted. 'It's almost like having a baby. It's so personal and sacred to you that you want people to love it and not ever say anything bad about it. Getting the seal of approval from Oprah, and knowing that she read it and loved it, made it all OK. I mean, it's Oprah!! She is the queen of many things, but definitely the quintessential queen of books.'
'Being told that my book would be a pick for her book club, I thought I had died and gone to Heaven,' Knowles added.
