Prof. Azzouzi to Publish French Translation, Interpretation of Holy Quran
Dr. Abdelhak Azzouzi will publish soon a translation and interpretation of the Holy Quran in the French language through the international publishing house Al-Bouraq. This work is the first of its kind because it combines both translation and interpretation into a foreign language in terms of scale and accuracy in translation and the complete interpretation of the Holy Quran. It will be published in three large volumes, 3200 pages. In this work, the researcher and scholar Dr. Azzouzi did not limit himself to the usual literal translation or interpretation; rather, he sought to preserve the essence of the Quranic text, its aesthetics, and the precision of the Arabic language in translating the verses of the Holy Quran into French. He also delved into the major classical commentaries and explanations before presenting his unique edition that provides readers with an accurate understanding of the holy book, serving as a guiding light that connects both Muslims and non-Muslims to the Book of God, which was revealed for the betterment of all people as a mercy to them, to convey God's will, as the highest purpose of it is the reform of individual, collective, and humanitarian affairs. The translation presented by Dr. Abdelhaq Ibn Idris Azzouzi is completely different from existing translations due to its accuracy, precision, and verification, aspects that many of the available translations lack. This is also due to the author's vast knowledge of the intricacies of both the Arabic and French languages, as he is a memorizer of the Book of God and has benefited from graduating from Al-Qarawiyyin University and French universities, as well as his professorship in many universities and his deep expertise in Islamic, historical, and human and social sciences. This allowed him to bring a level of precision in his translation that was not achieved by those before him. He did not confine himself to what others had built but rather innovated and excelled in creating a translation that preserves the beauty of the Quranic text and its semantic and rhetorical richness, enabling the reader to grasp its true spiritual and religious dimensions. Especially since the Holy Quran is the miraculous Book of God, revealed in the highest style and the most eloquent speech, with meanings and purposes of great depth that no other discourse can rival in style, discourse, and methodology. Dr. Azzouzi presented the Quranic text in a unique French language that combines precision in meaning with beauty in style, drawing inspiration from all the conditions of eloquence, rhetoric, and grammar that characterize the Arabic text, which has illuminated minds, expanded intellects, opened kingdoms, and elevated Arabic literature to an unprecedented level of excellence that no literature of any nation has ever reached before or after. He distinguished himself by the deep understanding that God has granted him regarding the meanings of His Book and the scientific matters it contains, which have not been mentioned by any previous commentators. He explained, in a well-mastered French style, the aspects of Quranic inimitability, the subtleties of rhetoric, and the coherence between verses. He did not begin translating and interpreting a surah without first explaining all the purposes it encompasses. He translates the verses of a surah that share a connected meaning, meaning that he first divides the Quranic verses into thematic units before proceeding with their interpretation. He combined both traditional and rational approaches in his interpretation, drawing from the most reliable classical and modern commentaries, as well as from writings about the Quran, and relying on various sciences that contribute to the understanding of Quranic purposes. He examined the reasons for revelation based on the most authentic narrations, discarding weak ones. He also addressed grammatical matters that help clarify many verses and explored the various interpretative possibilities allowed by Quranic words, structures, and grammar, including polysemy, literal and figurative meanings, rhetorical devices, connections, and pauses. He shed light on the stories of the prophets and major Islamic events, which contain great lessons and benefits for the ummah. He also focused extensively on the verses of reflection and contemplation, as well as God's signs in the universe. He incorporated some insights from physics, medicine, and natural sciences to make clear to both specialists and the general public the Creator's power in His creation, emphasizing that the heavens and the earth and what lies between them were not created except in truth. Dr. Azzouzi exerted great effort in uncovering the subtle meanings of the Quran and its miraculous aspects that were absent from previous commentaries. When citing narrations, he only endorses those that align with religious rulings and are acceptable to both reason and science. He sometimes supports certain interpretations with authentic hadiths. His commentary remains faithful to the wording in its usage, free from artificial interpretations or forced explanations. This methodology that Dr. Azzouzi followed in his work in the French language is the first of its kind in an endeavor that has long been sought by scholars and ambitious minds. It ensures that every reader, whether highly intelligent or not, finds what they seek. It serves as a trusted and reliable source at a time when distortions and biased works have proliferated, where many writings either intentionally or unintentionally deviate from accuracy, objectivity, and scientific rigor. This work is the first of its kind in the history of translations and commentaries, combining translation and interpretation according to the recitations of Warsh and Hafs, with each recitation published in three separate volumes. It also preserves the linguistic structures and profound meanings of the Quranic text, making it applicable to all times and places, encompassing both worldly and religious interests and embracing all branches of knowledge. This endeavor took Dr. Azzouzi over ten years to complete, undergoing four revisions, as the Quran's wonders never cease. Part of its miraculous nature is that it contains vast meanings within its concise wording, surpassing what is conveyed by numerous voluminous books. Such work demands great effort, as the meanings beyond the fundamental ones may be understood by some while remaining hidden from others. Indeed, there are those who carry knowledge to others who are more knowledgeable than themselves. This also necessitates revisiting ideas, making corrections, and adjustments to meet the needs of all types of readers regarding religious understanding, guidance, law, rhetoric, history, language, grammar, and explanations of creed, morality, methodology, and conduct, as well as the subtleties derived from Quranic verses explicitly, implicitly, or through indication—while maintaining moderation and balance in clarification. This work also aims to assist both Muslims and non-Muslims in contemplating the Holy Quran as a divine book of guidance, religious legislation, and a light that leads to truth and the straight path. It establishes a universal constitution based on moderation, balance, morality, and supreme human values.
