Wydad, AS FAR Fans Violently Riot Post Botola Pro Match in Casablanca
Rabat – Violence broke out Saturday evening around Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, following Wydad Casablanca and AS FAR Clasico match on the 28th day of Botola Pro D1.
Local sources said that several people suffered injuries during these clashes between fans.
The incident was documented in videos widely shared on social media showing intense fighting and scenes of panic between rival groups in a tense atmosphere around the sports venue.
Police quickly mobilized to restore order as the violence escalated, dispersing troublemakers to secure the stadium area.
Local sources also reported that the clashes started because both Raja and Wydad exited at the same time, which is against security protocol during games.
The protocol typically keeps visiting team supporters in the stands until local fans completely leave the area.
Hooliganism is on the rise at Morocco's national football games, causing authorities to take bold measures to ensure safety during sporting events.
Among the measures include heightened police presence during high-risk matches, surveillance cameras, as well as laws against any violent conduct.
Yesterday's match concluded with Wydad winning 2-1 against AS FAR.
Wydad's Samuel Obeng scored in the 31st minute, Christopher Lorch in the 67th, while Abdelfettah Hadraf scored for FAR in the 57th minute.
This win strengthens Casablanca's position on Botola Pro podium with 48 points, bringing them just three points behind AS FAR, who currently hold second place with 51 points.
