Bowmore 的「Layers of More」概念如何體現在威士忌中?

Scotland's 'most scenic' island seafood shed that has beautiful loch views and serves 'amazing' oysters

Summer in Scotland is turning out to be a very sunny affair, but regardless of our weather, our islands remain a constant draw for tourists and Scots alike. From the rolling hills of Skye to the mythical and atmospheric beauty of Orkney, it's in these communities that you'll also find some of the best homemade, or Michelin Star, food and drinks. One of the most visited islands for the latter is Islay, home to an array of whisky distilleries. It's also where you'll find the Islay Oyster Shed - one of the best places for oysters in Scotland. Opened in late 2023 by Petra and Craig Archibald, this unassuming bright blue shed is located on Craigens Farm, close to Loch Gruinary on the northwest coast of Islay. The location means that the meat and oysters on the menu are all as hyperlocal as you can get. The star of the menu, as the name suggests, is the (absolutely massive) oysters which are harvested just meters from the shed. Served natural with just lemon juice is the best way, in my opinion, to eat them but you'll also find them grilled, deep fried and topped with things like seaweed and chilli jam. They're creamy with just a hit of saltiness and absolutely wonderful. Picture: Islay Oyster Shed Other menu highlights include crab sandwiches stuffed full of meat and beef burgers. Vegan options and lighter bites such as soup, are also available. If the weather continues to be sunny and warm, the shed has outdoor seating overlooking the loch, making it an ideal place for a long lunch when visiting the island. The Islay Oyster Shed has been given a glowing review from a national newspaper as well as getting a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Google, with one reviewer calling it a 'must visit' place on Islay. They wrote: 'Interesting, unusual items on the menu! Oysters from directly in front of the venue, prepared 3 ways and all of them tasty!' Another added: 'highly recommend, lovely food and great service, all staff very friendly and also dealt with allergies very well, showing me ingredients etc which is a big relief having a little one with allergies. definitely worth the journey! 5*' The Oyster Shed isn't licensed but there's plenty of opportunities on Islay to sample whisky, with Bowmore offering an oyster luge. After a lunch of Islay's finest oysters you can visit RSBP Loch Gruinart for some birdwatching. In the autumn this reserve is known for its huge geese population. Open Monday, Thursday to Sunday from 10am-4pm (arrive before 3pm if you want to order food), the Islay Oyster Shed is located about a 15 minute drive from Bridgend via the B8017 and at the end of a single track road. Visiting Lagavulin, Coal Ila and Bowmore on Scotland's 'whisky island'

I have a special place in my heart for this beautiful island, and it is definitely one of my absolute favourite places on earth. We were visiting for a little holiday with family, although this drinks writer never rests when there are distilleries nearby, so of course we could not resist a couple of spirit-focused stops. We had three different whisky distilleries on our itinerary as well as one rum distillery during our time on the island, so let me tell you a little bit more about them all. I have had the pleasure of taking part in tastings at Lagavulin in the past, but have never managed to do a tour around the production areas and was thrilled to finally be able to do so this time around. I never really feel like I've properly visited a distillery until I've seen the still room, as it's my favourite part. Lagavulin feels very traditional and charming. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories that our excellent tour guide Sophie told us about the history of the distillery and the people who had worked there in the past. Lagavulin Distillers Edition also happens to be one of my dad's favourite whiskies, so it was important to me have the opportunity to visit with him. Visiting distilleries where you have a personal connection will always be extra special. The only distillery on the island that I have never even stood outside of, is Caol Ila. So obviously it's been the one distillery that I've been the most curious about, especially as it's located in such a beautiful part of the island where it looks over towards Jura. And it did not disappoint. The views are incredible and we enjoyed a lovely tasting of five whiskies straight from the casks. Read more: One of the highlights was trying an unpeated Caol Ila, and I find it fascinating when you can try peated and unpeated spirit from the same distillery right next to each other as you understand the spirit in a completely different way. A smoky character is lovely in a whisky, but it can often be quite powerful and have a tendency to overpower the spirit. I did not see the production areas this time around, but I will definitely be back! I did not know what to expect at our third distillery, which was Bowmore. It is such an old distillery and seems very traditional as well, but this was one of the best distillery tours I have ever done so it definitely surpassed my expectations. As the distillery was not in production, we got to see pretty much everything and when I say everything, we even got to stand both inside of the kiln and on top on the kiln floor where the barley lays when it gets malted, which I have never done before. If you get the chance to try an older Bowmore in ex-bourbon casks, I would highly recommend it - we tried one straight from a 2006 cask and it was incredible. Just before leaving the island we also managed a quick tour around Islay Rum, which can be found on the outskirts of Port Ellen. On an island known for its whisky, why not make rum? I particularly like the white rum Geal which is very approachable and has a lovely tropical character, but for die-hard whisky enthusiasts perhaps the barrel aged rum would be the go-to as it has (of course) been matured in ex-islay casks which imparts a lovely smoke to it. My whisky of the week was one of the drams included in the line up of our tasting at Lagavulin Distillery: the 14-Year-Old Lagavulin Islay Jazz Festival 2024 release. This whisky has been matured in first fill ex-bourbon initially before being finished in ex-South African Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks. It had a lovely sweetness and quite a tropical character of both pineapple and vanilla, blending together with an intriguing bonfire smoke. When I returned to this whisky after having tried the remainder of the line up, it had an intense note of gorse flower (often described as similar to pineapple or coconut) on the nose. I could imagine this being an excellent whisky for late summer evenings

Co-op cyber attack: Islanders facing empty shelves say 'get the people fed'

Islay isn't the obvious location for the frontline of cyber crime but the picturesque island famous for its wildlife and whisky distilleries is dealing with the real world impacts of the major supermarket targeting of retailers including Marks and Spencer and Co-op has led to sporadic empty shelves across UK stores as the companies slowed deliveries and shut down parts of their IT systems in response to cyber most places, disappointed customers at least have the option of visiting other supermarkets to pick up supplies. But communities across Scotland's Western Isles generally don't have that this part of the country, Co-op is often the only large store, with some smaller independent retailers operating. No fresh food "The Co-op is so important here," said Brian Palmer, editor of local newspaper, The Ileach."We don't think because we live here that we should have every convenience you get on the mainland but I think a lack of food is probably stretching it a wee bit."No one is starving as a result of shortages but there is clear frustration with the lack of fresh food at the Bowmore Co-op said the last full delivery was at the start of May. There have since been smaller deliveries, but not of what is first aisle of the shop usually stocked with chilled meat, fruit and vegetables was almost completely bare on Friday afternoon. As was the bread section shortly after a morning delivery."It's easy to shop when there's nothing to pick from," one customer joked as they left the store.A Co-op worker said they had dealt with red weather warnings and covid but "no one understands a cyber attack." The company told the BBC last week that the attack on its systems meant store deliveries had been hit and the hack had resulted in "significant" amounts of customer data being said "remote lifeline stores" will receive extra deliveries soon.A "spokesperson said: "We take our responsibility to our Scottish island stores and communities very seriously."As a result of the Cyber-attack, and the steps we took to keep our systems safe, we currently have a temporary contingency stock ordering and delivery process, where we have prioritised the quantity of stock and deliveries to these lifeline stores."From Monday, 12 of the most remote lifeline stores will receive treble the volume of available product, and another 20 lifeline stores will get double the volume."We would like to thank all members, customers and our amazing store colleagues for their support and goodwill through this time. 'Get the people fed' Construction business manager Donald Gillies said he's been unable to provide a good lunch for his site workers in port Ellen throughout the last if enough was being done to deliver food he said: "That's tosh (rubbish).""It's poor, it's really poor. Something has gone wrong in the IT system and like everything else in society it's all computer-driven and no one can make a bloomin' decision to send food over."Get the people fed." When will disruption end? Jude McCorry, chief executive of the Cyber and Fraud Centre based in Edinburgh, said it can take along time for companies to fully recover from cyber attacks."Even companies we don't think of as tech firms rely heavily on complex systems that take time to recover," she said,"We know from past experience that some cyber attacks are debilitating for months."I'm not saying there'll be this level of disruption for weeks and months, but it can take a long time for organisations to get back to the way they were before an attack."On Islay, people are full of praise for the local Co-op workers, they know it's not a local issue. Sheena MacKellar from Islay Gaelic Centre took aim at the group behind the hack."These people are selfish. They are affecting the wrong people."We're hard working honest people and we're the ones who are suffering and having to work round it."But we're islanders, we're made of stronger stuff."
