Kesha faces backlash after provocative 'banana stunt' during Mighty Hoopla performance

Pop star Kesha stirred controversy over the weekend following a provocative performance during her headline set at London's Mighty Hoopla festival. The singer, 38, raised eyebrows while performing her new track Boy Crazy, during which she dropped to her knees and suggestively bit into a banana held at the waist of a male dancer — an act many online deemed 'vulgar' and attention-seeking. Wearing a red latex bodysuit and knee-high boots, Kesha mimicked an explicit act that drew immediate reactions from the audience. While the live crowd responded with laughter and cheers, a video of the stunt shared to Instagram quickly sparked criticism. Commenters labeled the display 'cringe' and 'embarrassing,' with some accusing the singer of resorting to shock value to stay relevant. 'Music is supposed to be art, not porn,' one viewer wrote, while another added, 'She's setting a very bad example.' -Instagram. Some compared the moment to other recent celebrity stunts, including Sydney Sweeney's controversial bath water merchandise, accusing artists of prioritising sensationalism over substance. Despite the online backlash, Kesha's performance was not without praise. Clips of her singing her hit ballad Praying were also shared on social media, with fans praising the emotional delivery. 'Incredible on so many levels,' one user wrote. 'You truly summed up the mood of the weekend.' The Mighty Hoopla appearance marked a mix of reactions for the American artist, with her bold stage antics drawing both applause and scorn — reflecting the divide over the role of theatrics and boundaries in modern pop performances.

Kesha Launches New Platform "Smash" for Music Creators

Yara Sameh Kesha has launched "Smash", a new community platform where music creators connect, collaborate and hire each other and retain rights to whatever they create. 'My goal is to shift the power structure of the music making business in favor of the creators,' Kesha said. 'I signed a predatory deal when I was 18 and then spent more than a decade fighting to regain rights to my voice and image. When I finally gained my freedom I realized the fight wasn't over. I want to make sure what happened to me never happens to anyone else again." Smash was co-founded by CEO Kesha Sebert, CTO Alan Cannistraro and COO Lagan Sebert alongside a team of music industry and tech veterans. Its core mission aims to give creators access to the professional community they need to make music without the need to fight for ownership over what they create. To celebrate the announcement of Smash, Kesha is inviting creators to take part in an exclusive remix challenge for her acclaimed new single, 'Boy Crazy.' The participants signing up to the official Smash email list at will receive stems for 'Boy Crazy,' and then have a week to rework it. The best remix will then be personally selected by Kesha and officially released on Kesha Records later this summer. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies

Kesha Is ‘Boy Crazy' On New Single

Kesha Over the past year, Kesha has been in the midst of a career rebirth following the creation of her Kesha Records label and celebration of her independence as an artist. Last summer, she signaled that her first album in this new independent era was on the way with the single 'Joyride' and later that fall with 'Delusional.' She's continued laying the groundwork for her forthcoming LP, Period, this spring with 'Yippee-Ki-Yay' and the newly released single 'Boy Crazy.' On the upbeat pop track, Kesha sings about wanting to collect romantic partners from around the world and have fun while she does it. 'Berlin to Bombay, New York to LA / Tokyo to Tahoe, boys are my cocaine / Bikers and the dumb bros, daddies, and the gym h*es / Prowling like a kitty cat, I want to get you all alone,' she sings on the track. 'I'm obsessive, I'm fixating / I want all the boys lately / Fly me out and entertain me / Oh, oh, I'm boy crazy.' The singles released so far have run the gamut sonically and represent an amalgamation of her past work from her 2010 debut album Animal to the more emotional Rainbow and High Road. Channeling her emotions – whatever they may be – into her music is a key part of the pop star's creative process. 'If you feel rage, people can go bash a window of a car, but for me, if I feel rage, I take it to the studio and I currently surround myself with incredibly safe people that help me take my emotion and we alchemize it into song. So, it's become the way I process life and the beautiful part of writing music or making any art of any kind is that you get to process something in, hopefully, a safe way,' the pop star told last year. 'Once it has come out of your body and onto the page or into the microphone, if you choose to share it, that healing that you experience, then can possibly help to heal other people.' Period is set for release July 4.
