Police hand out 60 tickets to motorists over two days in Bradford operation

POLICE handed out 60 tickets to motorists over two days in an operation in Bradford. The Bradford South Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) and Steerside Enforcement Team - West Yorkshire Police's dedicated initiative for tackling anti-social and dangerous driving - teamed up together across last Friday and Saturday. This was part of Operation Steerside, where the fatal five driving offences are targeted, as well as anti-social driving. The fatal five offences are: failing to wear a seatbelt, speeding, driving while under the influence of drink or drugs, driving while using a mobile phone, driving without due care and attention and/or dangerous driving. A spokesperson for Bradford South NPT said: "Intelligence is fed into the operation by the Bradford ward councillors from members of the community." The team were in Wibsey and Royds & Buttershaw on the Friday, followed by Queensbury on Saturday. In total, across the two days, 10 tickets were issued for people not wearing a seatbelt, nine for speeding, nine for "glass not as prescribed", eight for heavily tinted windows and three for tinted windows, and two for using a mobile phone. The other tickets were: x6 VRM (Vehicle Registration Mark) not conforming to regulation x3 Dangerous parts x3 No MOT x3 No insurance and no licence x1 Fail to maintain lamps x1 No tax x1 Drive without due care and attention x1 No insurance The largest percentage of tickets were given out in Royds & Buttershaw (28), with 16 issued in each of Queensbury and Wibsey. Officers also seized four vehicles for document offences - two in Royds & Buttershaw and two in Queensbury. Three intelligence forms were submitted for development around repeat offenders.
