AUBH earns BQA compliance recognition

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) has been judged 'Compliant with the General Framework Standards' by the Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA). This recognition follows a thorough assessment of the university's academic and administrative systems, affirming AUBH's full alignment with the general framework standards that was carried out during the institutional review conducted by the BQA in collaboration with the Higher Education Council (HEC). In its official report, the BQA commended several areas of excellence at AUBH, notably the institution's rigorous quality assurance framework supporting sustained development, its strategic emphasis on continuous professional growth for faculty and staff, and its holistic approach to student engagement through accredited academic programmes and community-based initiatives designed to cultivate competencies and a strong sense of civic responsibility. This judgment reflects AUBH's dedication to delivering a high-calibre educational experience within a dynamic and inclusive learning environment. It also marks the successful completion of the institutional review process by the Directorate of Higher Education Reviews (DHR) of the BQA, which took place from 30 September to 3 October 2024. Commenting on the recognition, Dr. Bradley J. Cook, President of AUBH, expressed his pride in the university's accomplishment, stating, 'This judgement is a testament to AUBH's vision of educational innovation and academic excellence. It also underscores the commitment of our leadership and academic community to upholding the highest standards in higher education.' Dr. Cook further acknowledged the significant role of the Higher Education Council and the BQA in fostering quality outcomes across Bahrain's higher education sector, highlighting their collaborative and developmental approach. 'This achievement reinforces our resolve to further elevate our academic offerings and strengthen AUBH's position as a leading provider of university-level education aligned with global standards. We are focused on the strategic advancement of our academic programmes, campus infrastructure, and digital capabilities to ensure our students benefit from a transformative, future-oriented educational experience,' added Dr. Cook. Dr. Wafa Almansoori, Vice President of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation at AUBH, also extended her appreciation to the university's Board of Directors and Board of Trustees for their support and guidance, and expressed gratitude to the university's staff, faculty, students, and the university stakeholders, emphasising that this milestone would not have been possible without the collective efforts of AUBH's academic and administrative teams working in unison. She also expressed her appreciation for the collegiality of both BQA staff and the review panel members and the developmental approach of the review process that the general framework. 'This certification is the outcome of our ongoing efforts to enrich the academic environment and elevate research initiatives,' Dr. Almansoori said. 'It marks a major milestone in AUBH's ongoing pursuit of academic distinction in Bahrain and the broader region and underscores the strength and effectiveness of the University's educational model—one that integrates quality, inclusivity, and forward-thinking development across teaching and strategic academic collaborations.'

Cook acknowledging the significant progress made under his three-year leadership. The Board expressed profound appreciation for the remarkable contributions of Dr. Cook and his leadership, which has played a pivotal role in elevating the institution's academic standing, enhancing programs, and solidifying AUBH's position as a distinguished higher education institution in the region. During Dr. Cook's tenure, the University has strengthened its standing as a leading educational institution in Bahrain and beyond, achieving key milestones that reflect its pursuit of excellence and leadership. His contributions have driven substantial advancements in higher education, reinforcing AUBH's dedication to academic innovation and international recognition. Under Dr. Cook's leadership, the American University of Bahrain secured US accreditation (WASC) and recognition from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Jordan—a milestone that contributed to a steady increase in student enrolment year after year, with students now representing over 44 nationalities. Additionally, five new academic programs were introduced across various colleges, further enhancing the University's educational offerings. AUBH, in Collaboration with MIT and BBK, concludes innovative training workshops

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH), in partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)'s International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI) and powered by Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK), hosted the closing ceremony for two cutting-edge training workshops. Held from January 6 to 30, the workshops marked the third consecutive year of this groundbreaking initiative, dedicated to fostering innovation and creativity among students. The program was meticulously designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge required to excel in the ever-evolving landscape of modern technology. The first workshop, titled 'MISTI Accelerator – Business Startup: Transforming the Future,' centered on fostering entrepreneurial growth and driving innovation. The second workshop, 'Actuated Experiences - Design & Fabrication for Interactivity: Unlock the Door to Innovation,' focused on providing hands-on learning opportunities in design and technical development. These workshops brought together a diverse cohort of students from engineering, computer science, and ICT disciplines, representing various universities across Bahrain, such as, AUBH, Ahlia, BIBF, Polytechnic, Strathclyde, RUW, UOB and others. During the ceremony, participating students presented their achievements in design and manufacturing before a jury. The winning projects were announced as follows: Bazaar received the Best Business Pitch award, Navcket was honored with the Best Project Advanced award, and PearlQuest secured the Best Project Beginners award. In the People's Choice category, ICE Wall emerged as the winner in the Advanced division, while EmotiBear claimed the title in the Beginners division. Yaser Alsharifi, BBK Group Chief Executive, commented: 'We are extremely proud to support this pioneering educational program for the second year in a row, which represents the embodiment of our strategic vision to invest in the future of Bahraini youth.' Dr. Bradley J. Cook, President of the American University of Bahrain, expressed his great appreciation for BBK's support for the pioneering MISTI program. 'These initiatives exemplify the essence of global academic collaboration, aligning with our vision to deliver an exceptional educational experience that equips students to become future leaders and pioneers in addressing contemporary challenges,' Dr. Cook stated. For her part, Marwa Al Alawi, Lead Instructor and Course Developer expressed her happiness with the success of this year's fabrication workshop.
