Mass. man arrested after driving 140MPH during New Hampshire traffic enforcement initiative
SALEM, N.H. (WWLP) – A man from Salem, Mass., was arrested and faces multiple charges after he was found speeding at around 140 mph in New Hampshire on Monday. New Hampshire State Police stated in a news release that at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Monday, troopers observed a white Corvette speeding at around 110 mph in Salem, N.H. When attempting to stop the vehicle, they witnessed the driver speeding up significantly and recklessly passing other cars across all lanes. Longmeadow police seeking public's help in finding driver involved in incident with student Troopers from the Special Enforcement Unit used a fixed-wing aircraft to monitor the vehicle on Interstate 93 northbound. The driver was observed speeding up to 140 mph before leaving off of Exit 3 and driving onto side roads in Windham. State Police said that troopers were guided by the aircraft to the location of the Corvette, where a traffic stop was eventually conducted on Johnson Road. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Brandon Babcock of Salem, Mass., was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving and disobeying an officer. Babcock was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled in Salem District Court on July 17. New Hampshire State Police said that Babcock was among dozens of drivers arrested for excessive speed during the department's Memorial Day traffic enforcement initiative. During this effort, troopers observed 43 drivers traveling at 90 mph or higher and six driving at 100 mph or higher. Dozens stopped for excessive speed, including one clocked by aircraft at 140 mph, on I-93 on Memorial Day
A Massachusetts man driving at approximately 140 mph was among dozens of drivers who were stopped for excessive speed during a Memorial Day traffic enforcement initiative conducted by the New Hampshire State Police. On Monday, the State Police's fixed-wing aircraft was used to detect dangerous driving on Interstate 93 northbound in Salem. "During the effort, troopers observed 111 motor vehicle violations," a press release issued by the State Police said. "The violations included excessive speed, cell phone use, following too closely, 'Move Over' law violations, and reckless driving." According to police, 42 drivers were observed traveling 90 mph or faster, and six drivers were observed driving 100 mph or faster. A white 2024 Corvette was observed by police driving 110 mph at 7:45 a.m. Troopers attempted to stop the car, but the driver sped up and passed other drivers, across all other lanes of travel, State Police said. Trooper Thomas Lombardi monitored the car from the State Police aircraft and noted speeds of approximately 140 mph before the Corvette got off the interstate at Exit 3 and continued onto side roads in Windham. Lombardi maintained visual contact with the Corvette and guided troopers to its location. The car was stopped on Johnson Road. The driver was identified as Brandon E. Babcock, 22, of Salem, Mass. He was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving and disobeying an officer. He was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Salem District Court on July 17. According to police, the minimum penalties for reckless driving in New Hampshire include a fine of $620 with an additional mandatory penalty assessment and a 60-day loss of driver's license. The standard fine for traveling 86 mph or higher is $434.

A Massachusetts man driving a sports car at approximately 140 mph was among dozens of drivers who were stopped for excessive speed on Interstate 93 on Memorial Day, state police said Monday. Brandon E. Babcock, 22, of Salem, Massachusetts, was arrested on multiple charges, including reckless driving and disobeying an officer, state police said. Babcock was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Salem District Court on July 17. Babcock is among 42 drivers who were clocked traveling at 90 mph or faster, and six drivers who were seen driving recklessly at 100 mph or faster, state police said. On Monday morning, troopers assigned to the Special Enforcement Unit used the unit's fixed-wing aircraft to detect dangerous driving behaviors on I-93 northbound in Salem, state police said. Troopers noted 111 motor vehicle violations, which included excessive speed, cell phone use, following too closely, 'Move Over' law violations, and reckless driving, state police said. At 7:45 a.m. Monday, troopers saw a white 2024 Corvette traveling at 110 mph. When troopers attempted to stop the Corvette, the driver, later identified as Babcock, 'sped up significantly and passed other drivers recklessly, across all other lanes of travel,' state police said. Trooper Thomas Lombardi monitored the vehicle from the State Police aircraft, noting speeds of approximately 140 mph before the driver of the Corvette got off the interstate at Exit 3 and continued onto side roads in Windham. Lombardi kept an eye on the Corvette from the sky and guided troopers to its location on the ground, state police said. Ultimately, Sgt. John LaPointe pulled Babcock over on Johnson Road, and arrested him. The minimum penalties for reckless driving in New Hampshire include a fine of $620 with an additional mandatory penalty assessment and a 60-day loss of driver's license, state police said. The standard fine for traveling 86 mph or greater is $434. 'The members of the State Police extend their gratitude to all drivers who traveled through the state safely during the holiday weekend and encourages residents and visitors to remain alert and responsible during the summer season,' state police said.
