Brandon Wilde retirement community holds memorial butterfly release
EVANS, Ga. (WJBF) – Families from the Brandon Wilde retirement community honored their loved ones with a butterfly release on Thursday.
Painted lady and monarch butterflies were released in the event on May 22 to remember loved ones who have died. The tribute also included the men and women who died while serving the military.
According to organizers, the goal is to bring families of residents together to reflect and express gratitude.
'It's quite marvelous, really, to see the butterfly coming out,' said Myra Corcoran, a Brandon Wilde resident. 'And it's a new time for it and ready for the summer, you know.'
'My mother loved the butterflies, too, so she's in heaven now,' said Beverly Allen, a resident of Wilde. 'But I released it in her name. And so it was it was very, very, very much fun for me.'
Memorial butterfly releases like these are held throughout the country ahead of Memorial Day.
