Brazil Concert Band kicks off summer concerts over the weekend

BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Brazil Concert Band held their first performance of the season over the weekend. The Brazil band has roots dating back all the way to 1858. One band member has been in the local concert band playing the French horn for over 50 years. 'I've always loved music and it's kind of a family thing,' said longtime band member Darla Scherb. 'My dad was in the band for years and years and I wanted to join. We have some really great crowds here.' The Brazil Concert Band plays all throughout the summer and will wrap up at the end of August. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Brazil Concert Band set to begin summer concerts

BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Music fans out there, summer is here, and the Forest Park Band Shell will soon be playing host to concerts again. The Brazil Concert Band is set to begin its 2025 season of concerts at Forest Park. The first rehearsal will be on Tuesday, May 20th, at 7 p.m. at the park. Throughout the summer, the band will play 13 Sunday evening concerts, starting on June 1st and going through August 24th. Each concert will begin at 8 p.m. Director Matt Huber said the band plays a number of different types of music, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. 'We play a variety of music including traditional American music such as marches by John Phillip Sousa and Indiana's Fred Jewell, the Indiana March King', Huber said. 'We play traditional overtures, ones that you probably hear on cartoons like the Peasant Overture and Morning, Noon, and Night in Vienna, those kinds of things. We also play Broadway type music and pop music from all time periods. We even have a few rock numbers.' The band invites anyone interested to join. You must be at least a freshman in high school and own your own band instrument. If you are interested, go to the first rehearsal on May 20th at Forest Park at 7 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
