ITV The Chase star Bradley Walsh opens up on being 'sacked' from role
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Treasured TV presenter Bradley Walsh marked his 65th birthday this week, but despite hints at "slowing down", his busy schedule shows no signs of letting up. Walsh is a staple on British television, hosting popular shows such as 'The Chase', 'Gladiators', and 'Blankety Blank', as well as travelling the country with his son Barney in 'Breaking Dad'. However, before becoming a household name, Walsh began his career as a Rolls Royce apprentice jet engineer and even had a brief stint as a footballer with Brentford FC, until an injury cut his playing days short. Walsh's foray into show business began as a Pontins bluecoat entertainer, giving him his first taste of life on stage. However, his natural prankster tendencies, which often landed him in hot water at school and in previous jobs, ultimately led to him being sacked from this role. In an interview with earlier this year, Walsh recalled: "Once I left that to get into the entertainment industry and become a blue coat, I got sacked from being the bloke that was messing around. I thought that was the job! In the end I thought to myself, why don't I just get paid for messing around?". Post-Pontins, Walsh carved a career in stand-up comedy and remarked: "That was a very conscious decision. So, I've got myself a routine together," discussing his approach to humour. Reflecting on his style, he commented, "I was a very physical comic, bit like Norman Wisdom, not so many jokes. I was a very physical comic. And that's where it all started.", reports the Mirror. Celebrated across Britain, Bradley Walsh has been a staple on TV screens for over two decades, mastering roles in comedy, acting, and presenting. His notable roles include Danny Baldwin on the renowned ITV soap 'Coronation Street', DS Ronnie Brooks in 'Law and Order: UK' and as Graham O'Brien in the beloved sci-fi series 'Doctor Who' broadcast on BBC One, according to Gloucestershire Live. In 2009, Bradley transitioned to game show hosting by taking over as the host of ITV's hit quiz show 'The Chase'. He narrated how he landed the gig while popping into ITV to enquire about hosting opportunities. During a nostalgic chat with the ex-head of daytime television, she revealed plans for a new quiz show, to which Bradley promptly gave his critique. Recalling their conversation, Walsh shared, "I took it away and I said 'Yes, this can work, this will work' and she said, 'Okay, well we're going to make a pilot' and I said, 'I'll do it for you' and she said, 'Yeah, but it's only an office run-through' and I said, 'I'll do it for you, don't worry'." In an interview on the Tommy Tiernan show last year, Bradley Walsh recalled helping launch the pilot and coming up with nicknames for The Chasers. Nearly 16 years on, Bradley's passion for The Chase remains strong, with no plans to leave the show. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he reflected on his time on the programme: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world."

Bradley Walsh on being 'sacked' from role as opens up on The Chase future
Bradley Walsh has graced our TV screens for over 20 years. TV icon Bradley Walsh celebrated his 65th birthday this week and even hinted that he would be now "slowing down", but with his jam-packed diary, it's clear that it's just not going to happen anytime soon. The star is known for presenting many famous shows including The Chase, Gladiators, Blankety Blank, and hits the road in Breaking Dad with his son Barney Walsh. However, before he became a national TV treasure, Walsh kicked off his career joining Rolls Royce as an apprentice jet engineer and then briefly glimmered on the football pitch after being scouted by Brentford FC, until an unfortunate injury ended his football career. His showbiz career kicked off as a Pontins bluecoat entertainer and it gave Bradley his first taste of the stage life. Despite his natural fun-loving tendencies which often got him into trouble during school and previous occupations, his spirited antics eventually led to him losing this job, writes The Mirror. Brad chatted to earlier this year where he reflected on the start of his career: "Once I left that to get into the entertainment industry and become a blue coat, I got sacked from being the bloke that was messing around. I thought that was the job! In the end I thought to myself, why don't I just get paid for messing around?". Post-Pontins, Walsh then went into comedy, he said: "That was a very conscious decision. So, I've got myself a routine together,". Describing his comedic style, he said, "I was a very physical comic, bit like Norman Wisdom, not so many jokes. I was a very physical comic. And that's where it all started." The much loved star has graced our TV screens for 20 years as a comedian, actor, and presenter. His impressive acting portfolio includes stints as Danny Baldwin on ITV's Coronation Street, DS Ronnie Brooks in Law and Order: UK and Graham O'Brien in Doctor Who. In 2009, Bradley took the reins as host of ITV's quiz phenomenon The Chase, marking a strategic shift in his professional path. Walsh detailed how he snagged the opportunity to host The Chase after popping into ITV studios to enquire about presenting jobs. While reminiscing during a conversation with the former head of daytime TV, she mentioned an upcoming quiz show concept, prompting Bradley's feedback. Recounting their discussion, Bradley shared: "I took it away and I said 'Yes, this can work, this will work' and she said, 'Okay, well we're going to make a pilot' and I said, 'I'll do it for you' and she said, 'Yeah, but it's only an office run-through' and I said, 'I'll do it for you, don't worry'." During an appearance on the Tommy Tiernan show last year, he remembered kick-starting the pilot and devising the monikers for The Chasers. Fast forward nearly 16 years, Bradley's enthusiasm for The Chase hasn't waned, and he has no intention of quitting anytime soon. In conversation with the Daily Mail, he mused about his tenure: "Until people say they've had enough and start switching off, I'll do it. We've had such an extraordinary time together. It's the best job in the world." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. ITV fans say the same thing as Bradley Walsh series comes to an end
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info The dynamic duo of ITV star Bradley Walsh and his son Barney wrapped up the sixth series of 'Breaking Dad' on Tuesday (May 6) with an exhilarating finale in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The father-son pair has been on an epic journey through Japan and Thailand, engaging in a variety of activities. They have participated in sumo wrestling in Tokyo and bungee jumping in Gifu, gone go-karting in Osaka, and honed their Muay Thai skills in Bangkok. In the final episode, Barney upped the ante with a heart-stopping jungle roller coaster ride through Chiang Mai's green landscape. They also braved the world's stinkiest fruit, with Bradley more taken aback by its hefty £36 price tag than its notorious odour and flavour. (Image: ITV) The duo competed in a wooden go-kart race that seemed like a surefire way to void any travel insurance policy. Reflecting on the show's six-season run, Bradley and Barney shared cherished memories from their adventures, stirring nostalgia among fans. However, the trip down memory lane sparked concern among viewers about the show's future. Fans took to social media to express their hopes and fears. One viewer posted: "Really hope this wasn't the last series! I really enjoy watch Bradley and Barney's adventures!! #breakingdad" Another shared their apprehension: "Genuinely hope this isn't the final episode of #BreakingDad that I've watched tonight, this father and son are great to watch together!" (Image: ITV) Another chimed in, "Awww, I hope that isn't the last series. Such an entertaining show." There's buzz around whether Bradley Walsh and his son Barney will be back for another run, as ITV has yet to confirm a seventh series, reports the Express. A well-recognised face since the late 1980s, Bradley first graced our screens with the show 'You Must Be Joking', before going on to star in 'Coronation Street', 'The Larkins', and 'Doctor Who'. But it's as the charismatic quizmaster of ITV's The Chase – a post he's held since its 2009 debut – that Bradley is perhaps best known. Venturing into new territory, Bradley has joined forces with Barney for the BBC's fresh take on Gladiators. While chatting to BBC's Tommy Tiernan, Bradley shared the joy the show brings him. He revealed: "It's one of the most wonderful things I've ever done because spending time with my lad. From the age of 18, he's now 26 by the way, that's how long the show's been running, it was just extraordinary." Breaking Dad is available to watch on ITVX.

ITV'S Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad aired it's final episode of season six last night but fans were all left saying the same thing after it ended. Bradley and Barney Walsh: Breaking Dad's sixth season finished up on Tuesday evening on May 6 with the father and son duo taking in the buzz of the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The Gladiators c o-hosts have been travelling across Japan and Thailand, with numerous stops to check out local activities such as sumo-wrestling in Tokyo, bungee jumping in Gifu, go-karting in Osaka, and Muay Thai training in Bangkok. In the sixth episode, Barney arranged to take a ride on a death-defying jungle roller coaster, which promises to offer a unique and thrilling way to experience the beautiful surroundings, if you dare to keep your eyes open. Bradley and Barney also sampled the smelliest fruit in the world, with The Chase present left more horrified by the £36 price point rather than the stench. The pair also had a go on a wooden go-kart race that looks certain to invalidate anyone's travel insurance. After another entertaining episode, Bradley and Barney reflected on their six seasons of the programme and shared some of their favourite memories from the past series. While most fans enjoyed the walk down memory lane, many feared what the emotional moment could potentially mean regarding the future of the show, the Express reports. From thrilling new dramas and gritty documentaries through to glossy entertainment shows, reality binge-watches, returning series and all the best soaps, there's always something to keep us glued to the small screen. If you're wondering what to watch tonight, I've handpicked the best of the box, selected from all the traditional networks like BBC and ITV. Bradley & Barney Walsh Breaking Dad, ITV, 8pm The White Lotus might be over, but the Walsh lads are still enjoying their own personal voyage of discovery through Thailand. Mostly what they're learning is that there is no limit to how far Barney will push his dad in the name of thrill-seeking, but Brad should know what he signed up for at this stage! The pair have arrived in the frenetic capital city of Bangkok, and Brad takes the traffic in his stride, which is no mean feat while driving a caravan through a new place. But wait till they take their seats in a longtail speedboat. It's a fun tourist experience sailing through the floating market and buying souvenirs on the water, but when the engine kicks in and the boat shows what it can really do, this becomes white knuckle stuff. Once they're back on dry land there's no time for a rest, as Barney wants to try a spot of Thai boxing. Despite Brad's protests, he soon finds himself in silky shorts, being kicked by the locals. Later, he thinks he's finally due some relaxation when Barney takes them for a traditional Thai massage. But he doesn't even get to lie down, as they've booked in for a special face-slapping treatment, which apparently acts as an instant face-lift. Also on the agenda is a stomach-churning glass floor at the top of a skyscraper, an encounter with snakes and rice tractor drag racing. Will Brad continue to face his fears or will Barney go too far? The Best of the Rest Who Do You Think You Are?, BBC1, 9pm Journalist and former Radio 4 Today presenter Mishal Husain has already written extensively about her ancestry, but there are certain branches of her family tree still leaving her stumped. She's determined to learn more about her grandmother, Mary Quinn, and her search takes her to South East India. There she discovers more about her great, great grandfather Thomas who, according to family legend, had a prestigious position as a personal physician to a Maharaja. While many of her findings ring true with her research, others leave her shocked. Mishal is stunned to find out that she had ancestors who fought in the American War of Independence, and that her heritage extends to the US. As she arrives in Massachusetts, she can't quite believe that she has a family connection to the country she has visited so many times for work. A trip to Harvard University reveals fascinating details about her rebellious 4x great grandfather Joseph Farley. Stacey & Joe, BBC1, 8pm This series has quickly won hearts for its honest depiction of family life at Pickle Cottage. While Stacey Solomon and Joe Swash have more money than most, their day-to-day struggles and tiffs are familiar to us all, let alone the chaos of raising five children. Down to earth Stacey shares her birthday with three-year old daughter Rose, and we're joining in the celebrations as they head out to a safari park. Meanwhile, older boys Zach and Leighton are considering their future in the spotlight as they are invited to appear in Hollyoaks. Also tonight, Joe continues to come to terms with his recent ADHD diagnosis, visiting a therapist to talk through what this could mean for him. Later, he spends time with sister Shana, who gets dragged along on a 'fun-run.' It doesn't seem like much fun at all though, as she has unwittingly agreed to a 7km hardcore mud challenge… Emmerdale, ITV, 7.30pm Caleb and Ruby are pleased to see Steph feeling more optimistic after her latest appointment. But they're shocked when she reveals her plans to go on holiday. Manpreet and Sarah have an awkward conversation about IVF, as Sarah insists she wants a baby. EastEnders, ITV, 7.30pm Priya has her friends over for a takeaway, but the evening takes a turn when Joel and Tommy turn up with a bottle of vodka.
