SNL 50 Delivered 3-Year Audience High, Broadcast's Top-Rated Series

Saturday Night Live knows how to mark a milestone. Season 50 of NBC's iconic sketch comedy program averaged 8.1 million weekly viewers (across all platforms and with Live+7 playback). That's a 12% increase vs. Season 49 and marks the program's most-watched run since Season 47. Led to Ted Lasso Lester Holt Signs Off as NBC Nightly News Anchor - Will You Miss Him? In the coveted-and-delicious 18-49 demo, SNL 50 averaged a 1.7 rating, which is plenty good enough to lay claim to the 'No. 1 broadcast entertainment series' title for the 2024-25 TV season. (It easily bests ABC's Dancing With the Stars and CBS' Survivor, which led primetime entertainment fare this season with 0.9 ratings.) SNL also stands also the No. 1-rated comedy series across both broadcast and cable for a sixth consecutive season. 'To see the show honor its legacy while still pushing boundaries was incredible,' says Katie Hockmeyer, EVP of Late Night for NBCUniversal Entertainment. 'The strong ratings this season are a testament to how deeply SNL continues to resonate with audiences. After five decades, SNL remains a powerful force in shaping culture and making us laugh week after week.' The most-watched Season 50 episode on social media (with 712 million views), NBC notes, was the Oct. 12 telecast hosted by Ariana Grande with musical guest Stevie Nicks. The most-viewed sketch on social media (171 million views) in turn was 'Domingo: Bridesmaid Speech' from that same episode. Beyond SNL Season 50's weekly outings, SNL50: The Anniversary Special averaged 22.8 million total viewers across all platforms (in Live+35), while SNL50: The Homecoming Concert stands as Peacock's 'No. 1 highest-reaching original special of all time.' SNL50: The Anniversary Special will re-air this Sunday, June 8 from 7:30-11 pm ET.

‘Ted Lasso' Star Hannah Waddingham Calls Writers ‘Jedi Knights' Ahead of Season 4

The beloved Apple+ television show Ted Lasso doesn't need to be hyped up ahead of Season 4, but virtually every update from the cast seemingly does just that. It's hard not to be filled with anticipation for those who have seen the show's first three seasons. The stellar cast featuring Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham and Brett Goldstein, among many others, helped ignite Ted Lasso's tremendous following. The fourth season's unique twist only adds to the intrigue. Sudeikis, who plays Lasso and is the coach of AFC Richmond, is slated to lead a women's team in the new season. Waddingham, the team's owner in the show, spoke recently with Capital FM Radio about that, as Collider revealed. Before calling the Ted Lasso writers "Jedi Knights," Waddingham dropped some noteworthy news, revealing that filming for Season 4 gets underway in July 2025. "We start shooting in July," Waddingham said. "We thought we'd mourned the loss, and now it's rising from the dead!" She called the scripts "beautifully drawn" and praised the writer's room featuring "real feminist men." "Our writers are literally Jedi Knights. They're just incredible. And we've got like a full room of real feminist men. So we've got all the fabulous women there, and the men that are in there, and I think you really see it in the scripts ... it's just so beautifully drawn." Although there's been no official release date for Season 4, it's expected sometime in late 2025 or early 2026, based on various projections.

‘Shrinking' acting Emmy submissions include Jason Segel, Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, and these 4 guest stars

Apple TV+ will submit 13 cast members from Shrinking Season 2 for Emmy consideration, Gold Derby has learned. Jason Segel will submit in Best Comedy Actor for playing Jimmy Laird, an out-of-the-box therapist who's still grieving the death of his wife. Segel received his first Emmy nomination in 2023 for the first season of this comedy series, which he cocreated with Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. Ford, McGinley, Tennie, and Urie are all seeking their first Emmy nominations, while Goldstein has already won this category twice for Ted Lasso (2021 and 2022). As for Best Comedy Supporting Actress, the three performers being entered for consideration are Lukita Maxwell as Alice, Jimmy's daughter; Christa Miller as Liz, Jimmy's neighbor; and Jessica Williams as Gaby Evans, Jimmy's co-therapist and his deceased wife's friend. Williams was nominated in this category for Season 1 of Shrinking, while Miller earned a Best Music Supervision Emmy nom in 2023 for Ted Lasso. SEE'Shrinking' star Ted McGinley has been 'brought to tears' by the response to his performance: 'It's been an amazing journey' The comedy series is also submitting four guest stars on this year's Emmy ballot: Damon Wayans Jr. as Derrick No. 2, Gaby's new love interest; Kelly Bishop as Susan, Paul's ex-wife; Heidi Gardner as Grace, Jimmy's patient who gets into legal trouble; and Cobie Smulders as Sofi, a potential love interest for Jimmy. While Goldstein also received guest star billing, he appeared in more than 50 percent of the episodes, so he's not eligible for the guest race. Per the current Gold Derby odds, Shrinking is competitive in several top categories, raking sixth among comedy series, with Segel sixth among leading actors, Ford second among supporting actors, and Williams fourth among supporting actresses. If the predictions hold, this would be Ford's first Emmy nomination. Below is the list of Shrinking's acting submissions for the 2025 Emmys. Brett Goldstein on stand-up comedy: ‘A pitying silence is the worst'

Goldstein, best known for his Emmy-winning role as Roy Kent in the sports comedy series Ted Lasso, was a stand-up comedian for 20 years before venturing into acting. In a conversation with his co-star Phil Dunster for Interview Magazine, the comedian opened up about the most challenging parts of stand-up. "A pitying silence is the worst. It feels like dying on stage because you come to connect with people and when it doesn't work it's like, 'Oh my god. Am I even here? Do I exist? What is happening?''

Brett Goldstein premieres first HBO stand-up special ‘Second Best Night of Your Life'

Brett Goldstein, best known for his role as Roy Kent in the acclaimed series Ted Lasso, debuts his first HBO stand-up special tonight. Titled Brett Goldstein: Second Best Night of Your Life, the special was filmed in New Jersey following a successful tour across the United States and the United Kingdom throughout 2024 and 2025. Goldstein, who also co-created the series Shrinking, showcases a mix of humour touching on love, sex, masculinity, and his affection for Sesame Street characters. While fans are used to his gruff persona on television, the special highlights his sharp wit and unexpected references to Jim Henson's creations, balanced with his trademark use of strong language. The special premieres on HBO and will be available to stream on Max from 10 p.m. ET, 26 April. Those without traditional HBO access can subscribe to Max starting at $9.99 per month with ads. Alternatively, viewers can subscribe via Prime Video or opt for Sling TV's Blue plan with a Max add-on. New subscribers to Max via Sling TV benefit from 50% off their first month and continued monthly discounts. Ted Lasso and Shrinking are also available to stream on Apple TV+, with a one-week free trial offered to new subscribers. Shrinking has been renewed for a third season, and Ted Lasso will return for a fourth, over two years after its last finale.
