Anderson High School senior dies in Monday morning crash

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Anderson High School Principal Brian Lancaster announced in a letter that a senior died in a Monday morning crash. The Austin Police Department identified the student as 17-year-old Malachi Jenson. APD said on Monday, just before 2 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash in the northbound 8800 block of North Capital of Texas Highway. MAP: Where have Austin's fatal crashes occurred in 2025? Upon arrival, officers found Jenson had been killed. Another passenger was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the press release. 'Malachi was always smiling around campus, was a friend to many and his sense of humor and kindness were amazing additions to our classrooms and our Anderson Trojan Football Team,' Lancaster said in the letter. 'His presence in our hallways, classrooms and athletic wing will be deeply missed.' Lancaster said the school will have additional counselors on campus to provide support to students, staff and faculty this week as needed. If your child needs support, you are asked to contact the front office to speak with a school counselor at (512) 414-2538. APD said if you have any information about the crash to please contact its vehicular homicide unit at (512) 974-8111. You can also submit a tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program or by calling (512) 472-8477. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
