Greater Chennai Corporation to take up painting and electrical works at 4 subways in the city
Murals and electrical works will be taken up at four subways in the city soon, according to the Bridges Department of the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC).
At the M.C. Road subway in Royapuram zone and the Perambur subway in Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar zone, the project involves abstract-themed murals and roof painting, along with installation of lighting fixtures, cabling, switchgear, and junction boxes.
In Ambattur zone, the Korattur subway is set to undergo painting and electrical refurbishment. The interiors of the Villivakkam subway in Anna Nagar zone will be painted and its electrical infrastructure upgraded with energy-efficient LED lighting and safety fittings for monsoon conditions.
'Across all sites, works are being executed with specifications for water-resistant paints, protective coatings on roofs and walls, and advanced methods to minimise traffic disruption. Painters are required to use themed designs fit for public infrastructure, and all electrical works must comply with current safety standards. The combined value of works at the Korattur and Villivakkam subways has been estimated at ₹1.23 crore,' the GCC added.
All four projects will be completed within 90 days, with technical personnel to be deployed at each site to oversee the quality and execution of the works, the civic body said.
