Joao Pedro slapped with £70m price tag as Arsenal consider entering transfer race for Brighton star

BRIGHTON have slapped a whopping £70million price tag on striker Joao Pedro. Interest in the Brazilian, 23, has heightened as it appears the Seagulls are willing to do business. 2 But they will only be listening to offers around that figure, a huge mark-up on a player who joined in a £35m deal from Watford in July 2023. Newcastle, Liverpool Arsenal and Aston Villa are thought to be keen. Pedro hit ten goals in 27 Prem games last term. But he was left out of the last two games of the season by boss Fabian Hurzeler after a training-ground bust-up with team-mate Jan Paul van Hecke. Ahead of Brighton's final day victory at Tottenham, boss Hurzeler offered an update on Pedro's situation. The 32-year-old said: "With Joao, we had a small issue in training, a type which isn't uncommon from time to time at all football clubs. 'We dealt with it internally and the matter is closed. 'Joao is an incredible football player, he is a match-winner for us and he is a great player and that's why we invested in him. 'But there are principles, there are values that are non-negotiable that count for everyone. I don't make any compromises. 'I am sure that Joao is still a young player, there is still a lot of potential where he will grow. What does Brighton player Joao Pedro's controversial 'throat-cutting' goal celebration mean? 'I am sure that he will learn from this and come back stronger next season. 'I am really looking forward to seeing him renewed and reinvigorated at his highest peak into our team. That is all I would say to this. "The only thing is how we dealt with it as a football club, how we dealt with it as a team." Meanwhile, the Albion boss is set to offer a new one-year deal to veteran midfielder James Milner. The 39-year-old revealed this week that he had feared he would not walk again after surgery. He is 16 league games from breaking Gareth Barry's Prem appearance record of 653 matches. 2

Signings and sales - your transfer window priorities

We asked for you to tell us what Brighton need to do in the summer transfer are some of your comments:Leon: Keeping players should be our goal this transfer window. We've built a fantastic squad with lots of depth and potential. We need to break the mentality of being a feeder club to ever see that potential Sadly, Danny Welbeck has more career behind him than in front so we desperately need a proven striker. The same could be said about Lewis Dunk so a replacement there would be A lot depends on whether we lose anyone, but I think we need a striker and a right-back. I'd like us to sign Bryan Mbeumo and Kyle Walker-Peters. That should do the We had a huge spending spree last summer so I can't see a lot of incoming faces. If Tariq Lamptey is going to go this summer, we need a new right-back. Joel Veltman is in his twilight years (albeit still outstanding) and Mats Wieffer is a stop-gap rather than long term. We might need a striker if Joao Pedro goes, but I would love nothing more than for Evan Ferguson to come back and find his form again - he is a special I would say Brighton need to get Pascal Gross back in the team. He was making assists for fun. If we could find a like-for-like replacement then I'd be very happy. Would be interesting to see if Ferguson comes back and gets his head down. He has the ability but does he have the mentality?Ian: Whatever it takes, we need to keep hold of Kaoru Mitoma.

'Enterprising and easy on the eye'

Here's my quick assessment of Brighton's Premier League season - and a return to my August prediction: 12thEnded the season: 8thA solid season with plenty of promise under 32-year-old head coach Fabian Hurzeler, with hopes of Europe maintained until the final day, when they won 4-1 at Tottenham but ultimately missed continue to be enterprising and easy on the eye with their intense style, and this campaign was another example of how far this well-run club has is usually transfer activity at Amex Stadium, and Brighton will once again have other clubs eyeing outstanding attacking talent such as Joao Pedro and Kaoru Mitoma. History tells us they will be prepared for such I said in August: "This may not be the top-six season of a couple of years back but Brighton are always so watchable, and will be again."Read my assessments of the other 19 teams here

🎧 'No sulkers' at Brighton

On the latest episode of Albion Unlimited, former Brighton players Guy Butters and Warren Aspinall discuss the team spirit at the club and impact of the have had more goal involvements via substitutes than any other team in the Premier League this season (21).Former defender Butters said: "When you are on the bench you're literally chomping to get on. You want to get on there and prove what you can do. Some players come on and sulk - I don't see that at Brighton - I see them all wanting to go on there and get in the box."You're always going to have certain personalities that clash in every single squad but this squad that we've got now, you haven't got many sulkers in there, it doesn't seem to have too many of those sort of players in there. That could go down as well to the scouting group, the people that do their homework on what a player is like not only on the pitch but away from it as well."Aspinall added: "We used to have a great team spirit, even if you weren't in the team. What I see now in this Brighton side is we've got no sulkers. We've got nobody thinking 'I'm on the bench, I'm sulking because I'm not playing'. Or someone going on there and not passing, waving their hand up in the air when they don't get the ball. I've not seen that for the last few months."Listen to the full episode on BBC Sounds

Hurzeler poised for big decision - and it looks like Webster gets the nod

Fabian Hurzeler faces a defensive decision as he prepares his Albion side to face the new Premier League champions. But there are indications Adam Webster could keep his place at home to Liverpool. Webster returned to the side in place of skipper Lewis Dunk at Wolves and was involved in a clean sheet for the sixth time in 2025. Dunk was said to have a minor hamstring issue but, along with Joel Veltman, is available again for Monday's game (8pm). Albion boss Hurzeler said: 'Of course it won't be an easy decision but Lewis wasn't able to train some days so he's not on his highest physical level. 'Therefore, Adam deserved to play and Adam will deserve to play the next game. 'Then I always say it's competition and they are both leaders, they are both important players on the pitch and beside the pitch for me. 'And, like I always emphasise, it's important from our skipper. BRIGHTON TEAM NEWS FOR LIVERPOOL MATCH 'No matter if Lewis will start or not start, he will be in the squad and he has an impact on our team by his authority, by his experience, by his voice. So, I'm happy that he's in the squad and let's see if he can get some game time.' Kaoru Mitroma is a doubt for the Liverpool game and the fixtures comes too soon for Georginio Rutter. But Joao Pedro has now completed a three-match ban.
