Where S Club stars are now from sudden death to farming job and money woes
Iconic noughties band S Club sold more than 10 million albums worldwide before the group parted ways, but where are all of the members now? We take a look During the noughties, S Club quickly made a name for themselves, blowing up with their number-one hits, 'Reach', 'Bring It All Back' and 'Don't Stop Movin', that had everyone bopping away. The band even branched out with their TV show Miami 7 and movie Seeing Double. S Club, made up of Tina Barrett, Paul Cattermole, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O'Meara, Hannah Spearritt, and Rachel Stevens, made its debut in 1999. Their success saw them sell more than 10 million albums worldwide, win a Brit Award for Breakthrough Act in 2000, and again for Best Single in 2002. Despite their popularity, S Club sadly didn't stay together for long and split just five years later. Although their run was short, some of the members went on to reunite, both for spin-off groups and again in 2023 for a tour that delighted day one fans. Sadly some members struggled to make ends meet, while others continued to blossom in their careers. Let's take a look at where they are now... Jo O'Meara Jo was definitely a fan favourite - even before the group split. Before joining S Club, she was already in the game, singing with groups like Solid HarmoniE at 16 and even a German hip-hop group called 2-4 Family. But everything changed when she was spotted by the S Club team as skyrocketed to stardom. After the group split, Jo signed with several record labels, with Simon Fuller hoping she'd be the next Christina Aguilera. That didn't quite go to plan. He dropped her, and she eventually signed with Polydor, releasing her debut solo single in 2005, which charted at number 13 in the UK. But it wasn't just her voice that made headlines. She appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, where fellow housemate Shilpa Shetty accused her of racism and bullying. This was alongside claims against the late star Jade Goody, and the show received a record number of Ofcom complaints. While the controversy changed public opinion, Jo continued to work and release music. More recently, she joined the band for their Good Times tour in 2023 and today, often sings beside fellow S Club bandmate Jon Lee at various gigs as a duo. Rachel Stevens Rachel was with the group from start to finish. Raised in Southgate in a Jewish household, she started out as a model in 1993 after winning a modelling contest, beating thousands of applicants. She tried another career path briefly before shifting her focus to singing and joined S Club 7 soon after. When the group called it quits, Rachel signed an impressive £1.5 million, four-album deal. At first, she struggled with public perception - people unfairly saw her as the "ditsy" member - but she beat the critics, releasing multiple solo hits. She also competed on Dancing on Ice and came second on Strictly Come Dancing. Much to the delight of fans, Rachel reunited with the band for the 2023 tour. She has continued to update her followers on her life and has released an inspirational book about finding her voice. Now, she's pursuing fashion and interior design, with hopes of launching her own line. Tina Barrett Before S Club, Tina was briefly part of Mis-Teeq - though she didn't feature on any of their recordings and left after a year. She rose to fame with S Club and stayed with the group until they split, after which she announced plans to go solo. Unfortunately, her solo career didn't take off, and she stepped back from the spotlight for nine years. In 2012, she teased a debut single that's still unreleased to this day. However, she kept her music career alive through S Club 3, continuing to perform for fans and joining their 2023 tour. Bradley McIntosh Bradley was born into music - his Jamaican parents, Steve and Lauraine McIntosh, found success with The Cool Notes. After S Club split, he tried to sign as a solo act, but it didn't quite work out. He later joined MTV's Totally Boyband, forming a new group, Upper Street. But it was short-lived - their single flopped, and tensions with their label led to a breakup. Bradley eventually joined the S Club spin-off group and kept performing - including during their 2023 Good Times tour. Jon Lee Jon was always creative - from drama club and dance school to singing in recording studios. At just 11, he began auditioning for the West End and landed the lead in Oliver! by 13. Not long after, he joined S Club and stayed until the end. Post-S Club, he returned to acting, appearing in pantomimes and TV. In 2012, he released a solo album but soon shifted back to acting full-time. In 2010, he came out as gay, explaining in an interview that he'd always been open with family and friends but never felt the need to publicly announce it until then. Jon performs alongside his bandmade Jo at various events and appeared on stage with his band for their 2023 tour. Paul Cattermole Paul started young in musical theatre and met fellow bandmate Hannah Spearritt while performing together in Pendragon. At 16, he took a detour and formed a heavy metal band called Skua, before Simon Fuller recruited him for S Club 7. He stayed with the group for three years before leaving to rejoin Skua. He performed with S Club one last time at the late Queen's Golden Jubilee, but Skua split a year later after failing to land a deal. Paul later rejoined S Club 3, performing at universities and nightclubs. In 2018, he revealed he was struggling financially and doing odd jobs to get by. He also said he'd pitched himself to Celebrity Big Brother, Strictly Comes Dancing, and Dancing on Ice, but was never picked. By 2022, he was offering tarot card readings online. He was set to take part in the 2023 reunion tour, but tragically passed away from heart failure that April, aged just 46. Hannah Spearritt Hannah's career began long before S Club. At 12, she landed a role in Annie, then joined the National Youth Music Theatre. In 1998, she auditioned for S Club and became one of its standout members. After the group split, she continued acting — landing roles in Seed of Chucky and major TV shows like Primeval, as well as appearances in EastEnders and Casualty. Hannah originally planned to join the reunion tour but pulled out following Paul's sudden death. Last year, she appeared on Dancing on Ice but was the second to be eliminated. Now, she lives a quieter life in Costa Rica with her partner and two daughters, working as a farmer.
