Local Kiwanis Club gave away bikes to elementary school scholars
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)— The Kiwanis Club awarded bicycles to 20 area elementary school scholars.
The Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute is the sponsor of the Bring Up Grades Program in all elementary schools in Vigo and Sullivan Counties.
Every student who improves their grades or achieves straight As each quarter is recognized by the Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute, and is awarded a certificate, an entry into a drawing for a new bicycle, and other prizes. Bike selection day was today at Walmart east in Terre Haute.
Winning students had the opportunity to select and take home the bike and helmet of their choice.
'It's wonderful,' said Chair of the B.U.G. Program, Al Perone. 'I love this day because the students are excited. They get to pick out a bike of their choice and take it home and ride it for the summer.'
The Kiwanis Club of Terre Haute has been in existence for 105 years and has sponsored the Bring Up Grades Program since 1992.
