Crews determined the fire started in the rear bedroom of the home, but the exact cause is undetermined as of Thursday evening.
Bristol, Virginia Fire Chief Mike Armstrong noted in the release that the amount of debris and personal belongings in the home made moving through the house difficult for firefighters.
According to the fire department, a male occupant inside the home escaped safely before firefighters arrived. No other residents were injured.
Three cats died in the fire, the fire department reported.
Crews were on scene for roughly two and a half hours.
The Bristol Tennessee Fire Department also assisted in battling the fire.
