Champion Irish Jockey charged with drink driving offence in the UK
Four-time racing champion Oisín Murphy has been charged with drink-driving and is due to appear in court in the UK next week.
A statement from Thames Valley Police said the four time champion was 'charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle while over the prescribed limit of alcohol, and one count of failing to cooperate with a preliminary test at the roadside'. Oisín Murphy – Getty Images
The statement went on to say 'The charge is in connection with a single vehicle road traffic collision around 12.05am on Sunday 27 April this year when a grey Mercedes A Class left the road and crashed into a tree'.
The 29-year-old, originally from Killarney, County Kerry, rode five winners at last week's Royal Ascot meeting, and currently leads the British Flat Jockey Championship with 49 triumphs from 198 races. He was also crowned British Champion Jockey in 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2024.
He is due to appear at Reading Magistrates' Court on 3rd of July.
