Two British men shot dead at Irish bar on the Costa del Sol

Two British men have been shot dead at an Irish bar on the Costa del Sol. The Scottish men are understood to have been gunned down near the entrance door to Monaghans Fuengirola, in Andalusia, by a masked armed assailant on Saturday evening. He reportedly got out of a car that screeched to a halt outside the bar before fleeing in the same vehicle driven by an accomplice. Both men died at the scene. Despite police sources initially describing the two men killed as Irish and saying one was 41, Spain 's National Police subsequently confirmed both were Scottish. Earlier the government's sub-delegate in Malaga Javier Salas also said they were both Scottish. He said the first victim was shot in the chest and the second in the chest and abdomen. Regional newspaper Diario Sur reported the attack took place just after 23:00 when a car pulled up and a masked man opened fire. Spanish media reported that officers from the region's specialist and violent crime unit are leading the investigation. The Foreign Office said it had not been approached for any consular assistance but that its staff stood ready to assist any British nationals if required. Monaghans is located on the seafront and is a popular bar with tourists and expats. The bar had been showing the UEFA Champions League final on the evening of the attack. It comes after a 'British' man was killed in a Costa del Sol street shooting in April. The murder happened around 8.15pm on April 21 in the popular British holiday resort of Calahonda between Marbella and Fuengirola. Police were hunting the killer who was believed to have fled the crime scene in a getaway car later found torched nearby. The murder happened on a street called Don Jose de Orbaneja Street, where there is a well-known tennis and padel tennis club as well as a neighbouring holiday resort called Finca Naundrup. The victim was already dead by the time police and paramedics reached the scene. Locals told cops they had heard between eight and 10 shots being fired. The incident was described as a gunfight. Police put the area on lockdown after the shooting.

Cannabis seizures at UK airports soar to new highs with Thai gangs responsible

CANNABIS seizures have soared to record highs at UK airports — as Thai smuggling gangs attempt to dominate the British market in the illegal drug. The amount caught at Heathrow alone last year — 14.7 tons — was almost triple the 5.6 tons snared at all airports during 2023. 2 Nearly 27 tons of cannabis were seized at British airports last year, 400 per cent up on the previous 12 months. Some 750 people were caught by specialist cops, way up on the 134 nicked the year before. Nearly two thirds were flying in from Thailand. A record 430 suspects were arrested at Heathrow, the National Crime Agency said. Next worst hotspots were Manchester with 135 arrests and 4.8 tons seized and Birmingham, where 40 people were arrested over 1.4 tons. Thai gangs are thought to be trying to expand their stake in the British market by exploiting the Asian state's decriminalising of the drug in 2022. Many Brits are now caught trying to re-enter the UK with drugs having been lured to Thailand by the promise of a free holiday, lavish gifts and posh accommodation. In return, they must bring back suitcases stuffed with drugs. A source said: 'It's so much easier to obtain cannabis in Thailand than anywhere else. 'There is a huge amount of demand in the UK, especially for kush, which is much stronger. That explains the massive surge in seizures.' Brit ‘drug mule' couple arrested in Spain with 33kgs of cannabis in THIRD smuggler case linked to Thailand in just weeks

A BRITISH couple claiming to be tourists from Thailand have been busted with more than 33kg of cannabis in their suitcases at a Spanish airport. The pair were picked out by suspicious cops at Valencia Airport after displaying a 'nervous and evasive attitude' and are now behind bars on drug trafficking charges. 3 3 3 The man and woman were stopped before reaching customs, with officials later discovering vacuum-packed marijuana and no clothes or personal belongings in their luggage. It's the third case in weeks involving British nationals and alleged drug smuggling linked to Thailand. A 23-year-old British woman in Ghana was arrested last week after being accused of attempting to bring up to 18kg of cannabis into the UK on a May 18 British Airways flight to Gatwick. Bella May Culley, 18, sparked a massive international search operation in early May after she was reported missing while she was believed to be holidaying in Thailand. But it was later revealed that the teen, from Billingham, County Durham, had been arrested 4,000 miles away on drug offences in Georgia, allegedly carrying 14kg of cannabis into the ex-Soviet nation. And recently 21-year-old Charlotte Lee May, from Coulsdon, south London, was arrested in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo after police discovered 46 kg of 'Kush' - a synthetic strain of cannabis - in her suitcase. The former flight attendant, facing up to 25 years in prison if convicted, is claiming she had 'no idea' about the drugs worth up to £1.2 million. She insists they must have been planted in her luggage without her knowledge. Confirming the latest arrests, a spokesman for the Civil Guard in Valencia said: 'The Civil Guard and Tax Agency have arrested two people on a flight from France for carrying more than 33 kilograms of vacuum-packed marijuana in their suitcases. 'The two passengers, a British man and woman, were displaying a nervous and evasive attitude and were stopped before they reached customs control. 'They said they were coming from Thailand and were entering Spain as tourists and had nothing to declare. 'Following standard procedure, their suitcases were put through a specialist scanner which showed up a large amount of organic material in both but no clothes or personal belongings. 'The cases were subsequently opened in their presence and found to contain a substance which tested positive in the cannabis-marijuana drugs test. 'The drugs were subsequently confirmed to be 33,540 grams of marijuana. 'The British man and woman were subsequently arrested for a crime of drug trafficking and remanded in prison following a court appearance."
