After extra innings and a controversial finish, Broadneck falls in 4A baseball semis

For a moment, Broadneck believed it had tied a 13-inning battle and Urbana thought it had punched its ticket to the Maryland Class 4A title game. Neither team was right. With two outs in the bottom of the 13th and his team trailing by two runs, Bruins junior Luke Smith lifted a flyball down the right field line. A diving attempt came up short and the ball was dropped, but that didn't stop a wave of blue Hawks jerseys from pouring out of the dugout, thinking the game was over.

Broadneck girls' lacrosse is one win away from yet another state title

For a few minutes Saturday afternoon, it appeared Quince Orchard might do what nobody has been able to accomplish over the past five seasons: knock the Broadneck girls' lacrosse team out of the playoffs. The Cougars scored four quick goals to open the fourth quarter, cutting the Bruins' lead to four with 10 minutes to play in a Maryland Class 4A semifinal at Glen Burnie High. Broadneck Coach Katy Kelley quickly called a timeout. Sometimes a raised voice makes all the difference.

Broadneck, Severna Park return to Maryland boys' lacrosse finals

A Broadneck team that relied heavily on underclassmen this spring saw some of its more experienced players step up early in Saturday's Maryland Class 4A boys' lacrosse semifinal against North County. Junior long stick midfielder Wyatt Shaw, a Harvard commit who scored six goals all season, and senior attacker Blake Levicki, a Christopher Newport signee, both scored first-quarter hat tricks to quickly give No. 8 Broadneck an insurmountable lead. The Bruins outscored North County 11-0 in the opening 12 minutes and topped the Knights, 20-3, at Glen Burnie to clinch their fourth consecutive state final appearance.
