Phoenix metro weekend freeway closures: Improvement project to close I-10, US 60, SR 143
The Interstate 10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project will close or restrict lanes on three major Phoenix-area freeways. The Arizona Department of Transportation scheduled closures along I-10, U.S. 60 (Superstition Freeway) and State Route 143 (Hohokam Freeway) in Phoenix and Tempe. The Broadway Curve Project aims to relieve traffic congestion for those who travel beneath the curve of Broadway Road between Tempe and Phoenix. Some closures will be overnight, two days or throughout the full weekend. Make sure to double-check the hours of the closures. ADOT urged motorists to allow for extra time while traveling through closures and to plan on using alternate routes. For real-time highway conditions, drivers should check the az511 app or call 511. Here are the freeway closures for April 4 through April 7. The closure will last from 10 p.m. April 4 to 10 p.m. April 5 for construction associated with the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. The westbound I-10 lanes will be narrowed between SR 143 and 24th Street from 10 p.m. April 4 to 4 a.m. April 7. The lanes will also be narrowed between Guadalupe Road and State Route 143. ADOT noted that restriction times are subject to change. Detours: Alternate routes include eastbound U.S. 60 to northbound Loop 101 and westbound Loop 202. Northbound State Route 143 will also be available as a detour during the closure. The lane restrictions will occur between 10 p.m. April 4 to 4 a.m. April 7 for the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. The westbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road and the westbound U.S. 60 on-ramp at Mill Avenue will be closed from 8 p.m. April 4 to 4 a.m. April 7. The closure is scheduled between 10 p.m. April 5 and 4 a.m. April 7 for work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. Detour: Use eastbound U.S. 60 to get to northbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) and westbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) to reach Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and southbound State Route 143. Drivers can also use westbound I-10 to reach the airport's west entrance. ADOT noted that the eastbound I-10 ramp to northbound State Route 143 and northbound 48th Street between Broadway Road and I-10 will be closed from 10 p.m. April 4 to 4 a.m. April 7. The closure for the eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) off-ramps will occur from 10 p.m. April 4 to 5 a.m. April 5 for a widening project. Detour: Exit at 59th Avenue. What to know about traffic restrictions this week for US 60, I-10 and I-17 drivers
The busy holiday weekend is over, but traffic may still be congested due to several projects the Arizona Department of Transportation is working on during the week. Major freeway closures for Tuesday through Friday are set for U.S. 60 and Interstate 17. Interstate 10 won't close entirely, but lane restrictions will happen in some areas, ADOT said. The department urged motorists to allow for extra travel time and to use the detours suggested. For real-time highway conditions, drivers can check the az511 app or call 511. Here's what you need to know about both daytime and nighttime restrictions that could affect your commute to work or drive home. ADOT advised drivers to plan for traffic restrictions for blasting operations as part of a bridge replacement project along U.S. 60. U.S. 60 between Superior and Miami, mileposts 227 to 243, will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. The U.S. 60 will remain open for local traffic only between Miami and Magma Mine Road, mileposts 231 to 243. Detour: Eastbound U.S. 60 drivers can use southbound State Route 177 through Winkelman to northbound SR 77. Westbound U.S. 60 drivers can use southbound SR 77 through Winkelman to northbound SR 177. ADOT advised drivers to plan to travel before 9 a.m. and after 2 p.m. due to the roughly 75-mile length of this detour. The detour is estimated to add an additional hour for trips between Superior and Miami. A new section of the I-10 will be closed nightly for the continuance of the Broadway Curve Project. Northbound 48th Street will close between Broadway Road and the I-10 nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Tuesday through Friday morning for barrier work. Download The Curve app for more details. Plan for overnight lane restrictions and ramp closures on I-17 during the week. The restrictions started Tuesday and go until Saturday morning as work continues between Anthem Way and Sunset Point. The off-ramp from northbound I-17 to Coldwater Road will be closed from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday for removal of a concrete barrier, ADOT said. The Broadway Curve Improvement Project aims to ease traffic congestion between Tempe and Phoenix. From Friday through Monday, traffic along eastbound I-10 will be diverted along Loop 202 to avoid the closure between State Route 51 and U.S. 60. Other restrictions will occur along southbound State Route 143 near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and Loop 101. Here's what to know about the freeway closures that might affect your weekend plans. The closure from SR 51 at the Ministack Interchange to U.S. 60 will last from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday for work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project. The eastbound I-10 on-ramps between Third Street in downtown Phoenix and Baseline Road will be closed, including the southbound SR 51 ramp to eastbound I-10. The southbound Interstate 17 connection to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport will be closed. Some ramp closures will start at 8 p.m. on Friday, ADOT noted. These include southbound I-17 on-ramps at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street. Detour: Eastbound I-10 traffic approaching the closure will detour to eastbound Loop 202, and drivers can use southbound Loop 101 to westbound U.S. 60 or westbound Loop 202 to reach I-10. Drivers also can avoid the closure by detouring on southbound/eastbound Loop 202 to reach I-10 near Chandler Boulevard. The closure will last from 10 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday for work on the Broadway Curve Project. The eastbound U.S. 60 on-ramp at Priest Drive will close from 8 p.m. on Friday to 4 a.m. on Monday. The westbound I-10 on-ramp at Broadway Road will also be closed. Detour: Consider using alternate routes, said ADOT. The closure will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The SR 143 ramp to westbound Loop 202 will also be closed. Detour: Consider using southbound 44th or 52nd streets from McDowell Road to enter westbound Loop 202. The restriction will last from 10 p.m. on Friday to 9 p.m. on Sunday for a widening project. ADOT said to allow for extra travel time and prepare to slow down and merge safely.
