Young Dumfries footballer has matchday mascot honour for Norwegian side SK Brann
Greystone Rovers' youngster Brodey Struthers carried out the role for the Bergen club's game against Sarpsborg.
A connection between Dumfries and Norwegian football clubs is as strong as ever after more than 70 years.
One of Greystone Rovers' youngest players – seven-year-old Brodey Struthers – had the honour of being matchday mascot for SK Brann's sold out game against Sarpsborg in Bergen on Saturday.
The match, which took place on the eve of Norway's national Constitution Day, took place in front of a packed stadium of 17,000 passionate fans.
Brodey walked onto the pitch hand-in-hand with Brann's Felix Horn Myhre and later presented the club's CEO Christian Kalvanes with a signed Greystone Rovers strip, signed by Brodey and the rest of the club's 2018 squad.
He received exceptional hospitality, watching the match from the director's box and soaking in an atmosphere he'll never forget.
Brodey's love for SK Brann was inspired by his papa, former Greystone Rovers player Donald McGuffie, who has maintained a close friendship with a Norwegian teammate from his own youth football days
Greystone's links to Norway go back to 1940 and the Second World War.
Refugees from the Nazi invasion came to the town before a Norwegian Army team played a Dumfries team and drew 2-2.
In 1951 Greystone travelled to Norway, the first trip of its kind by a youth side since WWII, with Brann Juniors visiting Dumfries the following year.
