Indoor park with ‘waterless slides' opens first Ohio location in Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — An indoor park with 'one-of-a-kind waterless slides' is now welcoming thrill seekers to their first Ohio location in Columbus. Slick City Action Park is now open at 1170 Polaris Parkway near Polaris Fashion Place after launching on Monday. The 35,000-square-foot Columbus park is home to 15 waterless slides from the 'slick slide' portfolio, a series of slides that leverage 'proprietary slide surface technology in order to generate an experience like that of a water slide in their speed and performance,' according to the company's site. Nada, Arena District Mexican eatery, closes after 10 years 'Slick City is a family entertainment center, it's made for all ages,' Sam Iliff, the Columbus location's general manager, said. 'We have a patent technology that we coat the slides with, we pair that with the slide mats that we give our guests to use, and that combo adds that slickness to the slide and allows you to get that speed as you're going down.' 'Twenty-five-foot slides can kind of be intimidating for some people, but I think most people find a thrill of going down,' said Iliff. 'People just do it over and over and over again, and I love being a part of that thrill, seeing somebody do it, they land, they're laughing, they're having a good time. So yeah, it puts a smile on my face.' Slick City Columbus is open 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday. A permit application to the city of Columbus last fall revealed Slick City's renovation cost $500,000 to build out 'space for indoor recreation,' including 'modification of existing restrooms, expansion of mezzanine, new managers office, kitchen and concessions area, vendor installed activities, and seating areas.' Bed, Bath and Beyond announced the closure of the Polaris location in fall of 2020, along with the chain's store at 1750 Hill Road North in Pickerington. The chain then filed for bankruptcy last year and shuttered additional central Ohio stores, including the location at 3750 Easton Market near Easton Town Center and at 1717 W. Lane Ave. in Upper Arlington. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Columbus' first Slick City Action Park to open next month

A waterless water slide park will open next month in Columbus. Slick City Action Park expects to open at 1170 Polaris Pkwy. by early- to mid-May, the company announced this week. The St. Louis-based brand began work last fall on the 35,000-square-foot former Bed Bath & Beyond space. 'At Slick City, we believe there's no age limit on fun,' CEO Bron Launsby said in a press release. 'This is a new kind of entertainment park built to move, inspire and wow guests time and time again.' Moving those guests at Slick City comes in an innovative way. The parks have a patented 'dry slide' meant to recreate water park fun without the need for water. Slick City was founded in 2021 by Launsby, an experienced family and activity park operator, and Gary Schmit, credited as the creator of the proprietary Slick Slide. Beyond its signature Mega Launch slide, Slick City has not announced which of its more than a dozen slides creations will be part of the Columbus location. In addition to multiple slides, the Columbus space will have 'air courts' for basketball and dodgeball, dedicated play areas for toddlers and multiple event spaces for parties and groups. Launsby, who spoke with sister publication the St. Louis Business Journal last year about the concept, said the slides launch riders through the air to land on foam mattresses while others shoot riders over multiple hills, and the sports courts have bouncy surfaces for what he called 'enhanced athletics.' The Columbus location is expected to employ 80 between full-time and part-time positions. It will be the first Slick City in Ohio. It is growing fast. It had just five open locations as of last fall. It's grown to 13 now in eight states with dozens more in development.
