Ford Issues Yet Another Re-Recall, This Time for 34,000 Escape and Bronco Sport SUVs
The Ford Motor Company has issued yet another recall for the popular Bronco Sport and Escape SUVs over a possible fuel leak issue. Unfortunately for owners, this is once again an issue that Ford had already recalled these same vehicles for, but did not appropriately address the first time. Here's everything we know based on the filings with the National Highway Traffic Association (NHTSA). According to NHTSA, the recall affects 15,355 Bronco Sports SUVs from model years 2021–2023, as well as 18,221 2020–2022 model year Escape SUVs with the base 1.5-liter engine. The vehicles were previously brought in for repair under safety recalls numbered 24S16 / 24V092 and/or 22S73 / 22V191, but Ford has come to learn that these vehicles may not have actually received the necessary software updates. This means there's a risk for the car's fuel injectors to crack, resulting in vaporized or pooling fuel near a hot engine. That's a recipe for an under hood fire and possible crashes or injuries, so the cars must come back to the dealership. In the recall report, Ford says that the dealer scan tool itself used in the previous recalls did not properly upload the remedied software. Dealers will be tasked with installing a new set of updates that will solve the initial faults, and will be notified of impacted vehicles on April 24, but owners aren't expected to receive notice in the mail until May. If you own a Bronco Sport or a Ford Escape from these model years and don't want to wait, you can always check your VIN with the NHTSA search tool linked here. These double recalls from FoMoCo have been consistent through 2025, covering a broad swath of the carmaker's lineup — with software issues remaining a trend throughout. Here's hoping the automaker can get that sorted before owners and technicians alike start getting fatigued. Ford Stock (NYSE:F) Surges as Price Hikes Return to the Table
Sometimes a weekend is all it takes to fundamentally change things around. This was the case for legacy automaker Ford (F), who saw the market go from ' don't you dare raise prices ' to having price hikes post-tariff back on the table, according to some reports. And that word sent Ford shares on an upward tear, gaining over 3% in Monday afternoon's trading. Earlier reports suggest that the White House would '…look unfavorably on such a move, leaving some of them rattled and worried they would face punishment if they increased prices. President Trump took to NBC News to offer up some clarity on that, noting 'No, I never said that. I couldn't care less if they raise prices, because people are going to start buying American-made cars.' Trump then declared that he '…couldn't care less' twice more, making it clear that prices would go up on foreign cars, making even slightly pricier American cars a bargain by comparison. It was perhaps that last part that made some concerned: 'American-made cars.' Many cars are actually made outside of the United States in some fashion or other; parts come from other countries, or other countries assemble certain parts. And how that impacts tariffs, and prices from there, is a bit less clear. Recalls and Marketing In what perhaps will be the least surprising news, regardless of prices, Ford is facing another recall effort, this time over a potential fuel leak in its 1.5 liter engines. This includes Bronco Sports models made between 2021 and 2023, as well as Escapes from 2020 to 2022. Required repairs will be made at no charge, as usual. Finally, Ford also made a move in favor of both marketing and the status quo. It extended its naming rights partnership with the Detroit Lions and Ford Field, which has been home of the Lions since 2002. That makes it the second longest naming rights partnership in NFL history, reports note. When the Lions moved back to downtown Detroit, reports note, Ford was there to help. Thus, Ford Field remaining Ford Field is a sign of confidence in the team and the city, which should help Ford's local image. Is Ford Stock a Good Buy Right Now? Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Hold consensus rating on F stock based on four Buys, 10 Holds and two Sells assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. Ford Bronco Sport, Escape Recalled (Again) for Possible Fuel Leak
Ford is recalling 15,355 Bronco Sports (2021–2023 models) and 18,221 Escapes (2020–2022 models) due to a possible fuel leak. These models have the 1.5-liter engine and were previously recalled for the same issue, but the fix wasn't actually completed. Ford will cover the recall-related repair for free, and owners will be notified by mail by May 1. No, it's not déjà vu. Ford is once again recalling the Bronco Sport and Escape due to a possible fuel leak on models with the turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine. The latest recall stems from a recall earlier this month for the same issue, which the company says wasn't correctly fixed the first time. The issue affects 2021 to 2023 Bronco Sports and 2020 to 2022 Escapes, which amounts to 33,576 total units. According to a recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford says its records show that, while the previously recalled Bronco Sports and Escapes were reported as repaired, they actually weren't. That means it's still possible for the engine's fuel injector to crack and leak fuel or fuel vapor that could interact with a hot surface and possibly start a fire. The fix itself requires updating the software for the vehicles' powertrain control module. However, during the original recall, the tool to do this didn't properly upload the software, so owners will need to return to their local Ford dealership to try again. The work will be done for free, and Ford says it will notify dealers by April 24; owners will be notified by mail by May 1.
